Does anyone else stand on the sides of their feet?

I'm in my mid-40s and only recently realised I do this all the time when I'm barefoot/in socks, if I'm standing doing the washing up, brushing my teeth etc. I roll onto the sides of my feet and stand like that. DP says I've done it the whole time he's known me (20y!). I don't do it when I've got shoes on, to the best of my knowledge. Apparently I also jiggle around from side to side when I'm nervous, who knew?!

Now I've noticed I keep catching myself doing it and have to make an effort to stand with my feet flat, which doesn't feel right! Guessing it's not great for my feet/legs...

Does anyone else do this?

Yes. My consultant and physio reckons it's because I'm hyper mobile. Have you any issues like that?

Yes, I do.

Yeah I'm a little bit hypermobile but mostly in my shoulders, hasn't been mentioned elsewhere (and I've had a lot of physio for hip/knee pain). But could be related!

Supination
See a podiatrist who does gait analysis
Or a physio to look at you walking and suggest exercises
If you leave it then it could lead to knee or hip problems in later life ?

Yes I do, but I try not to when I notice. My yoga teacher has remarked that I seem to have some hypermobility. My teen DD does it too.

Yes. I was totally unaware of it until I went to see an osteopath when I was in my early 30s because I was getting awful headaches. The osteopath wriggled my feet and ankles and told me to go home and look at photos of myself as a child to see that I was standing on the sides of my feet. I did and he was right. He said it happens if the balls of your feet are weak as you tilt your feet to avoid standing on the balls of them.

Thanks, will try and see a podiatrist! I used to walk with my toes facing outward as a pre-teen and managed to train myself out of that when my mum mentioned it to me, so hoping I can stop this if I concentrate!
