At what age did you buy your forever home?

Just being nosy.
DH and i are still in our starter home, after 15 years. We're almost mortgage free, but with COVID and childcare costs, have no savings. Our youngest is about to start school, so that will free up some cash. We would probably need to borrow at least 150k to move into a home we could consider our forever home. I'm about to turn 40 and the thought of taking on a huge mortgage at this age is worrying. WWYD?

I was 26, my husband was 29, when we bought ours. It's big enough to raise a family, not so big to be unmanageable now that they are nearly all gone. In November we'll have been here 40 years. We're still in good health and able to manage the stairs, we have half flights which makes it easier. We're hoping to not have to move, but realize health issues may force that later on.

Fat chance of me owning a house unless I inherit. So I reckon I’ll be old myself if I ever do own.

24
Bought an awful flat and lost tens of thousand on it aged 22
Bought a better one at 23 and now can't seem to shift it
I'm not going through a fourth house purchase. No way. I will build an extension if it comes to it.
