Whats the best advice, light bulb moment or kindness that has stayed with you . On MN?

Not any of those things, but there have been a few posters who I wish I could be more like. I don’t remember their names or the threads they were on but one was a woman who’d just discovered her husband had been cheating. She was incredibly strong and resolute. The only thing I remember specifically was she could hear her husband crying in the shower after he’d been found out. I was awed by how dignified she was in such a horrible situation.

I wish I’d known about MN when I was younger. It would have saved me a lot of heartache

The threads about funny pets and children are always a good read

It was a thread about little things you do that make your day easier, nicer, etc. Someone said they often change their pants for clean, fresh ones during the day. It’s my new thing! This probably makes me sound dirty, I’m not at all. I get in from work, fresh pants, lounge pants and I’m like a new woman.

I owe so much to mumsnet. I made 250k on selling a business and have bought a house outright in a beautiful part of the country. I was reading the Brexit threads 7 years ago and several wise posters (I think redtoothbrush was one?) were explaining the impact it would have on economics etc. I was stuck renting with no savings and living hand to mouth and remember thinking I can't possibly find even an extra £50 a month if food goes up let alone rent and bills, despite dh having a good business. At the time we couldn't get a mortgage but could get a business loan and a business mortgage. So we did that, bought a business with accommodation that was totally run down 400 miles away. Made it a success and renovated it and sold it after 6 years. Hardest 6 years of my life and we genuinely hated every single day of it, but now we own a 5 bed with a garden and have learnt the skills to renovate it. I am so grateful to mumsnet and the knowledgeable posters who spent so long writing about brexit. I managed to get out of the hell that is renting in the UK.

So many people kept me company as I sat with my dad as he was dying.

Whenever Mumsnet gets a bit nasty I always think back to those days and nights to put things into perspective.
