Well done him!
Did he complete the degree whilst working full time in response?

Fantastic news. We need dedicated and kindhearted people in public service. Good luck to your ds as he sets out on his career!

I work with young officers, they have so much to juggle with doing degrees, completing portfolios and doing their actual job. There are some really good young officers out there. Well done to your son.

Aww well done to him, I don’t know how they do it juggling everything! I joined 16 years ago and we did foundation degrees which were far far easier and no dissertation at the end…. I was single and child free then and couldn’t imagine juggling a full blown degree around things!
I struggle the work life balance now on the best of days! Well done to him ❤️

Ds is single. No children . Gosh it would be so hard with a young family. Ds was shitting it for the dissertation. He feels like a weight has been lifted.

I don't think people realize how amazing some of our young officers are.
Working full time in a physically & emotionally demanding role then coming home to study for a degree on their rest days.

For people who don't get the lingo, response officers are the ones who respond to emergencies that come in - could be violence, mental health, suicide, concern for welfare etc , they also deliver bad news to loved ones following a death eg road collision. Most young, newly trained officers start in response.

You should be very proud OP & let him know that actually the majority of the public respect & support him - I hope he has a fulfilling career & doesn't let the idiots get him down.

What a lovely thread. You must be delighted.

I think lots of people think the police are good. I do.

fannyphlaxis · 13/02/2025 23:23

my daughter is a frontline response cop. she passed out in high covid so i never got to be the proud and embarrassing mum in person.
i'm so overwhelmed by how amazing she is and what she deals with every day.
her and her colleagues hate the wrong uns in their numbers and want standards raising where they are weak.

if i hear a car pull up outside my house in the early hours and i know she's on nights i have a moment where i dread a knock on the door to give me bad news that so many families have heard of their lives one seriously injured or worse in the line of duty.
people who don't know at close quarters what frontline officers face can't appreciate how it can turn on a sixpence from an uneventful situation to something very dangerous. i watched in TV as morons threw missiles at her during last years riots.
be proud of your son and i wish him a long, safe and positive career.

Well done to him. The police needs decent people who want to help society and not just exert power and drive fast cars! X

Yes it's definitely hard . He went to a few deaths some had been there a while sadly. His colleague went to a hanging suicide it was awful. There are sometimes problem teenager type ones He said they can be sad sometimes. Luckily he's only been attacked once. It did scare him though he's never had a fight in his life till then . He's had resisting arrest but that's different.

Definitely proud of him 🥰
