I'd like to try it but don't know where to start.

Is there an app or a website or what?

I need to get onboard with this but for some (irrational?) reason I've put off because it feels like I could get hacked. I know, I know, I sound ridiculous and like my Mum who refuses to use internet banking!

If I create a ChatGPT account on their website is it like any other account where I have a log in and password and no more / less risky than any other website?

I think you have to have the Enterprise version for this, which is £££. The regular Pro version doesn't, but you can opt out of having your data used for training the model.

Personally I wouldn't believe that. Or rather I would believe it like I believed Googles pronouncements about how they "look after" your data. Which is still zero.

Whatever they say, I wouldn't entrust anything sensitive.

@notwavingbutsinking thank you so much. Smile
I have an hour by myself in the car later waiting for DD to finish her club, so I shall get chatting/prompting with ChatGPT!

I use the Bing app.

I use it to edit emails and extract information from long documents. It’s a bit like driving a car - you need to know what you’re doing to interpret the results correctly, but like a car it’ll get you there faster than under your own steam.

MrsPepperpotsCat · 13/02/2025 18:14

Oh no i didn't realise i had a limited amount of questions 🤭

Zorgothslugofdoom · 13/02/2025 22:16

It's fantastic for recruitment. If you put in a job description, you can ask it to generate questions (found this great when developing questions as an interviewer). I've also used it when applying for jobs by inputting the job description and my CV and asking it to tailor my CV to the job description (make sure you check it afterwards!).

I've also used it to generate a personal specification/statement. Recently I had to produce a statement of 1500 words to evidence how I met the job criteria. I fed in the JD, my CV and some other background text and the result was amazing! I now have an interview and have asked it to generate question ideas and give suggested answers based on the STAR technique. So good!
I've also found it helpful for policy writing, as it can help you go from a blank piece of paper to an outline with suggested headings - really helps with first draft ideas. It saves so much time!

I make it do all my work for me it's fab

fashionqueen0123 · 13/02/2025 22:45

I don’t get it in the main. I’ve seen people posting it’s replies for things like writing emails to schools and it’s so obviously AI. And then if the school did the same back, you’re just getting robots talking to each other? Why not just write the email yourself it makes me cringe.

I can see why someone would use it to start a policy document off though. Or the recipe thing sounds useful. I’ve only been on the website once I’ve never felt the need to use it so interested in the responses!

OnePearlFox · 13/02/2025 22:55

I love it for quick questions and it came in very handy for job applications (including a presentation!!). But be really really careful about the information you are giving it as it will remember and use everything.

Particularly for work - absolutely do not use it with personal data or anything that should not be made public. Some employers don’t allow it.

WonderingWanda · 13/02/2025 22:57

I use it to create quizes and worksheets for students. As others have said you need to fact check but can just find a reliable Web page and copy the text then ask it to generate questions. It's especially good at multiple choice questions which are really time consuming to make yourself. I also ask it to generate model answers which I then edit and can give to students to mark to help them understand exam technique.

Just go on the chatgpt website and register for an account to start off with. Have a chat with itm they are very interesting. A bit like enthusiastic children. Don't always get things right but try very hard and are really enthusiastic. Remember that they do have hallucinations because of they way they work, so they can and do make answers up to questions and do get things wrong.

What's ITM?

Geneticsbunny · 14/02/2025 08:48

Typo. It should have said it.

TwatOnAHotTinRoof · 14/02/2025 08:54

I quite like Perplexity Pro - £20 per month. I must look at Co-pilot as I've never used it.

GameofPhones · 14/02/2025 09:05

I used Gemini (a button comes automatically with Google) to help me decipher an illegible word in German handwriting I was translating. We reached the solution in discussion together. Gemini needs lots of context to help find a solution.

On the other side of the aisle are recruiters using "AI" to reject AI generated applications.

MrsPepperpotsCat · 15/02/2025 08:03

I feel I want to get onboard before it moves on too much for me to 'get it'. I don't want to be left behind. But I'm struggling to think of every day uses, other than recipes, which don't involve me sharing information I might rather not,

GameofPhones · 15/02/2025 12:50

I asked Gemini to solve a puzzle for me. It couldn't do it, but we had a quite interesting and informative discussion about possible ways to approach it (letter frequencies, etc.).

thebear1 · 15/02/2025 13:30

I find it really helpful but have to be very careful when I use it as not allowed to use for certain work purposes because of it farming data.
