Romantic but not soppy film?

This is all a bit weird to me but I have a new man (at 50+ after many happy single years) and he's keen to do "something" for Valentines.

I really don't want to a Valentine's restaurant or anything specifically marketed for Valentine's, but it's quite nice that he wants to do something, so we've agreed we'll cook something nice together and I can choose a film. He's definitely thinking romantic!

My usual film of choice would be something interesting based on a true story. I find a lot of romance/romcoms a bit problematic from a feminist pov, what recommendations might you have?

Before sunrise

Gorgeous 1990s film following a couple as they spend a night in Vienna talking and getting to know each other. Absolutely beautiful

Spoiler Alert:

They're wonderful. I love the second one. The final scene in her apartment where she's talking about jazz and has that great community. I think about it now and again; she's absolutely adorable. You watch him making up his mind to be with her.❤

Aibu to feel sorry for his wife?

But according to him they're only together for their child. I understood that their relationship was as good as over.

Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool
Shirley Valentine
Crazy Stupid Love
All spring to mind because they're about "mature" love if that's not too cringey a phrase.

Well it's a bit random but I was trying to think of films with romance that I don't want to slap people in.......

Dances with wolves (haven't seen it for years but if i remember right the ending made me happy. The bit at the beginning might not be very valentines friendly though 😅)

Light and fluffy-
Sleepless in seattle?

I really liked the book by Beth o'leary- the flatshare. They have made it into either a film or a series fairly recently, I don't know if it's any good but might be one to try.

Does it have to be a romantic film especially? I mean- I'd avoid horror or action films, but if your evening is generally a romantic atmosphere I'm not sure the film choice should be critical. Anything not depressing or violent seems like it would work. But better a normal film you enjoy than forcing yourself to sit through a romance film you are secretly rolling your eyes at
