If you’ve found anything that has helped you with peri menopause - to be in a better mood / more energy etc please share?! Open to all ideas!

HRT has been great for me.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 13/02/2025 06:17

Currently
Menopace
vit d/k2
magnesium glycinate.

Nutrious diet where possible: lots of veg/fruit, seeds/nuts. Not cut any food groups. Eat too many crisps 😂. Minimal alcohol. lots of water.

Spin, yoga, resistance bands, long walks and daily steps.

Im 46. defo in peri for a good 3/4 years. Periods now spacing out. Symptoms manageable and the above all help. Not adverse to HRT but not needed yet. But i imagine ill give it a try. More concerned about long term bone health tbh

Loads of outdoor exercise helps my mood and sleep.

Are there any nuts / seeds in particular which are meant to be good?

50 here and no peri symptoms. Always eat home cooked food, always exercise, drink loads of water. I drink too much booze which has started to affect my sleep sadly.

but I don’t think symptoms are a given.

HRT. Tried supplements for joint pain and sleep, which helped, but HRT has me largely normal.

Fastingandhungry · 13/02/2025 11:34

Good question @Cloud44 im the same and Dr won’t allow HRT because apparently it’s not suitable for peri.

Im struggling, also, lack of sleep, brain fog, chest pains, aching, headaches etc.

PlainJaneSuperbrainthe2nd · 13/02/2025 11:42

I'm not suffering enough for HRT as yet but have found collagen powder has got rid of the achy joints I was getting. I also take magnesium glycinate to help with sleep. Diet and exercise really important too. I will probably take HRT in future but I suspect I'd feel worse taking it now.

That is absolute rubbish-please ask for a second opinion/see another GP

Booksandwine80 · 13/02/2025 11:54

Strength training, plenty of protein, walks in fresh air and prioritising sleep have massively helped me.

greatfrontage · 13/02/2025 11:55

HRT.

A cocktail of herbal supplements took the edge for for about a year: black cohosh, shatavari and red clover.

5-HPT helped with sleep a bit.

Oh @Fastingandhungry - that's AWFUL and so utterly wrong. I'm so sorry - you really have to change GP. Withholding proven, normal and mainstream medical treatment is outrageous. I had all that and more and it was gone in about 3 weeks once I started HRT. You don't have to go private - just ask to see someone else (who actually cares about your wellbeing).

Lou205 · 13/02/2025 12:20

A-Z vitamin tablet and omega 3 fish oil. Made a huge difference to me.

Enough4me · 13/02/2025 12:22

HRT and marine collagen tablets (hair and nails feel thicker again).
Magnesium leg spray for restless legs.

EmpressaurusKitty · 13/02/2025 12:31

The single best piece of advice I had from MN when I turned 50 was to start strength training, & it’s really benefited me. I found a female PT of my own age to work with which made a big difference. Also keeping up yoga for flexibility.

I was already on hrt (oestrogel and mirena coil) but I felt so much better once I started following the eat 30+ different plants a week idea and cutting down on processed food (I didn't eat that much of it anyway as I cook from scratch but was still eating processed snacks sometimes)...

My daily diet before would've been something like

Breakfast - porridge with banana
Lunch - ham sandwich and crisps
Afternoon Snacks - apple, small Kit Kat
Dinner - various healthy home cooked meals

Now I have
Breakfast - overnight oats made with organic oats, watered down Greek yog, mixed frozen berries, drizzle of honey topped with ground flax
Lunch - homemade beetroot or pepper hummus topped with mixed roasted veg and lentils, and a bit of crumbled feta, or homemade veg soup, or chopped salads with added mixed seeds (I prep enough for several days)
Dinner - similar to previous meals but I add more veg into everything and eat lots more pulses/beans
Snacks - plain dark chocolate and a wider variety of fruits

Also - walking in the fresh air every day no matter what the weather is, preferably with a friend to chat to.
