What career would you choose if there were I barriers in your way?

What would your dream career be? Ideally a rich stay at home wife is my ideal job but, alas, the husband is poor.

I'm looking for some inspiration as I have no real direction in my life.

I don't have children and I can potentially retrain (not as a doctor, mind) but I really don't know where to go or even start. If you were able to peruse any career, what would it be?

My side hustle, which is buying and selling on VINTED. I would go to auctions, house clearance, estate sales etc. And learn more about antiques. Books, paintings etc. I am probably leaving money on the table as I don't know what these are worth.

I had neighbours who did this. They ended up with their house looking like one of those Extreme Hoarders places. I think you have to be very disciplined.

Artist and/or author. Barrier would be my lack of talent I fear.

Not to burst your bubble but real film acting involves saying the same few lines over and over again with several takes until the picky director is happy whilst probably pretending that February is really a flaming hot July in a bikini and the location is quite obviously not Hawaii but New Jersey.

Bit like modelling really. A lot of repetitive gurning and clothes held together with pegs behind your back and the wrong size shoes on photoshoots.

Doesn’t sound that bad for Cameron Diaz’s money - it’s hardly going down the mines.

I have had careers that I have enjoyed at the time. Dental nurse , working as a CCP in playgroups , schools and nurseries. I am a bit lacking in direction at the moment after being carer to my Mum with dementia for a few years. If money was no object now I would love to buy a modest house by the sea with a holiday let next door. I would absolutely love to furnish it and make it welcoming to people and run it as a business. Doing a bit of volunteering in a nearby school or animal sanctuary. That is my dream.

I would retrain as a tradie. One, I’d like to feel more ‘capable’ and two, as a woman it would be a bit of a usp and three, I think I’d like a physical ‘in person’ job. I’d either do electrics or car mechanics.

Commercial pilot.

I have a pilots licence but I'd love to do it for a job.

I chose teaching instead. Nothing more said.

Oh, I've thought of another one - a stonemason working on a cathedral. I would love to carve a totally smooth round pillar that would stand there hiding up the roof for centuries.

I know there are modern stonemasons working on cathedrals, but I do think that my main barrier is that it isn't the 15th century any more and I don't live in a ken follett novel.

Maybe Cameron Diaz was one of the lucky ones. Shelley Duvall.never really recovered from The Shining.

Academic - Prof/researcher in my area of expertise.

If academia wasn’t an incredibly stressful, poorly paid, backstabby cesspit of politics, personalities and publication based fuckwittery.

Why not take the first step then?

There are nurseries for nurses and midwives. There’s nothing to stop you from doing this - take the next step.

You know, I'd like to be a Wizard.
Not like that Jerry Potter, a proper one, with a long cloak with stars on and a bigly pointy hat.
Oh, and one of those stick things to point at frogs and make 'em disappear.
Yeah, that's what I want to be next.

Hotel Bath Critic. A bit like a food critic but I would review baths in hotels all over the world.

God I can't bear the thought of having a bath in a hotel room where potentially lots of other people have had baths. I think it's probably because I used to be a cleaner in a hotel and know how skanky they can be.
