Just as title says really. Lost someone a week ago, body at undertakers, Dr confirmed death and gave paperwork, we are supposed to be contacted by medical registrar but nothing yet. GP no help, registrar number rings out, basically don’t know what to do, obviously we can’t even arrange funeral without DC.
just wondered if there was a known delay?

I have just searched Luton Register Office and on the 'registering a death or stillbirth' page is a link to book an appointment to register a death. So I am assuming it's done that way rather than by phoning.

Hope this helps you. Flowers

In our area you ring to make an appointment.

Sorry, yes there is a link to make an appointment but it says prior to that you will be contacted by the medical registrar and this hasn’t happened.

AFAIK you will only be contacted by the medical registrar for an unusual death (murder etc, sorry)
A 'normal' death, you book the appointment online.
I registered a death in Luton three years ago and used the online booking system.

This is the info I get when I try to make appointment .
It looks like we need to wait for med registrar?

Was the death unusual? Are the police involved?

Organisedwannabe · 12/02/2025 16:28

We were contacted by the medical registrar but that was to discuss paper work which needed to be completed before we could register the death but hospital wouldn’t release the body to the funeral home until this was conpleted.

I would ring your funeral home as they should be able advise you.

i am not far from you but a different local authority - relative died in hospital recently. It took about three days for the death to be certified by the medical team and then I received a call. After that you have 5 days to book and attend register office.

Thank you all. No, death was sadly expected, he had come home to die about a week previously. The funeral home, undertakers? Just say contact GP, G.P say contact M.E. And round we go again.

Unfortunate all deaths have to be dealt with by a medical examiner since last year so doctors can't issue them anymore which takes a lot more time than it did before even for straight forward expected deaths.

Condolences. 💐

Thank you all. Seems like I just have to wait then.
