When your dc went to uni, did it really take from results day, to the day they start, to get them sorted ??

As this is what a friend has told me, and has advised me
I won't be able to go on holiday after results day as I'll be too busy Sorting stuff.

So just wondering what others think?

We will certainly arrange it so that we are here on results day, so we can make any calls needed or help with clearing if needed

I think being organised in terms of knowing what to take beforehand helps so Ds had made a list. With Ds1 his accommodation was known so on results day when he got in we knew it was a 3/4 bed and self catered. Plus he didn't start until late September whereas others start much earlier in September. Ds2 found out a week or so after his results day but had all of Ds1's hand me downs.

Ds1 did find making lots of decisions at once difficult so in terms of choosing a duvet cover and towels etc I helped him with that, narrowed it down to what I thought he would like and he chose from that. We are not a family who has spares of anything so everything bed wise from the pillow, sheets, duvet, cover, etc had to be bought too. All medicines, bathroom cabinet stuff like tweezers, nail clippers etc had to be bought so there is some thought to all of that. It depends where you live and if you have Amazon to deliver and Ikea and Dunelm close by.

The student bank account needs sorting after results day as you need a code.

We went to the US for a fortnight the morning after DS's.... he sorted his accom that afternoon - was allocated a slot to log on and do it. He's the laid back but organised sort so really didn't need anything other than a trip to IKEA, an order from Amazon, and he logged on from the US to register for other things.

This stuff expands to fit the time allocated, as far as I can see! Unless there are specific complications such as having to go through clearing, arrange accom yourself etc.

If your child is going to a Scottish Uni you could be pushing it to go away for a week or long weekend as they start early September.

But otherwise you should have plenty of time especially if they get the firm or insurance offer and you have no need to visit. Make a to do list so you are organised and work together with your young person. Both my children got either first or insurance offers. I took results day off just incase and it was still exhausting.

In an ideal world if you have no other school children at home I would go on holiday in June after any leavers assemblies/proms and holidays with friends.

Nope, DS got first choice, was going to take a gap year abroad but changed his mind he had to un defer his place, lucky they had room, we then had to sort accommodation and everything he needed to take within a week.

It is just the unknown. If you go through clearing and then have to find accommodation which might involve a trip to wherever they are living then it can be a bit of a scramble since you are competing with others in the same position. Also as PP has mentioned if you have to get papers for review and then possibly having remarks it can mean you are in a place of uncertainty for a good few weeks.

Not at all. Confirm accommodation. Quick trip to ikea/Dunelm/supermarkets. Pack then done.
