If you can't see well without glasses, and don't wear contacts ...

... how do you go about choosing stylish frames that suit you?

Last time, my DH took photos of me wearing different frames, then I put my own glasses back on to see the photos. We also had a dispenser hovering, making suggestions. Unfortunately, the result wasn't great - I regretted my choice. But I'm due to get new glasses soon, and I'm wondering how to make sure I choose better.

What do you do?

Choose your opticians wisely. A good shop will ask you to pick out a few styles, then find similar ones in shapes that suit you, and they won’t be scared of making suggestions and telling you if they are too big/too square etc.

Trust me, the optical assistants at my local Specsavers have clearly not taken 3 years of exams, they are mostly just out of school.

You've answered it right there. Specsavers.
I go to a local optician with a good range and get fantastic service. They find the frames I want in my price range. Never upsold.

I just kind of try loads on and see what I think suits me best! I’m sure there’s more of a science to it as regards face shape, colouring all that but I’m clueless. I don’t really care what others think, just how it looks to me. I find I suit larger frames better as for for some reason smaller ones make my eyes look tiny which I hate. My eyesight isn’t so bad that I have trouble seeing in the mirror at fairly close range. I don’t need to have nose touching the mirror or anything but I can see how that would be tricky! Probably need to rely on a trusted friend or shop assistant in that case
