Have you had it? How long did it last? I feel wobbly when I get up, but feel guilty for lying in bed.

I was sick 8 times last night- in the end it was just bile 🤢.

You poor thing, it's grim. Have you stopped being sick now? You're so depleted but if vomiting over you can start with what you feel like, for me after a bug it's usually flat coke and salty crisps or white toast, seems to begin to replace lost salts etc. Once the actual vomiting has ended then usually feel a lot better with a nights' sleep.

Noodlesand · 09/02/2025 17:21

Last time I had it was just over a year ago and although I was only sick twice (and the other end twice!), it took me about a week to properly get over it. I'm always in so much pain for a day or two afterwards (back, legs, also really bad heartburn) and then it takes me ages to get my appetite back so really weak and tired.

I wouldn't feel guilty - you'll still be contagious so if there's others in your house, you don't want to give it to them anyway.

Hope you feel better soon.

DH and I had what I assumed to be norovirus from mussels years ago. Never had it tested though, so can't be 100% sure. We'd often get them fresh from Billingsgate market without issues for years. I learnt afterwards that there had been a norovirus outbreak in mussels that month!

Its doing the rounds again now, but I don't think from mussels. Sorry if TMI, but take a bucket to the toilet. I was pooing and vomiting at the same time! I have vivid memories of DH running up the corridor and not making it to the toilet! 😬

Keep your fluids up. Dioralyte can help replace the electrolytes lost in vomiting and pooing. Bananas are good too. Follow the BRAT diet https://www.webmd.com/children/brat-diet

They’ve all had it before I arrived. I’m gutted- I’m visiting family and we had lots planned.

I was going to have a shower, but I was sick again. Not as violently as last night though.

Thanks for replying- I was getting lonely!

I think it’s because I’m a visitor.

I always bought Noro was repeated and violent vomiting or diarrhea? I ask because my husband has exactly what you have described right now and I had pretty much ruled out NV as he has only been sick once yesterday morning.

BashfulClam · 09/02/2025 19:14

Oh it’s vile. I spent a whole Sunday night throwing up and shitting lava a werk
after starting my job. It was during lockdown so not sure how I got it…the only place I had been was Asda.

DragonfliesAboveYourBed · 09/02/2025 19:16

No - I read a study where they deliberately gave noro to people, and of the people who developed symptoms, about a third only vomited once.

I think it's just a bit of circular logic. People think noro is always horrific. Therefore they assume anything not horrific is not noro. "I had noro once and it was awful, and what I have now isn't awful therefore it isn't noro".
But most likely they haven't been tested, so are just basing it on a general perception that noro is awful.

@NormasArse @NormasArse

No, depends on various factors like viral load (how much you have 'ingested') and how effective your immune system is at clearing it.

(I had previously wrongly assumed that you were sick until you had vomited up all of the bad stuff, but it's until your immune system has neutralised it).

I believe noro is the predominant sickness bug that adults in the UK get. (Rotovirus is also a primary cause in children, but most adults are pretty much immune to that one).

ETA: Sorry OP, I can't seem to get rid of the tagging of your name.

WinterMorn · 09/02/2025 21:05

So I need to spend the next few days hoping desperately that I can dodge the bullet?

Yes.. but as you've seen, your husband only threw up once. So whatever he's got, if you catch it, it's not guaranteed to be awful. Even if it isn't norovirus, you could still catch it and be sicker than him, or not sick at all.

I assume anyone vomiting in the house has a contagious stomach bug unless I know for sure it's something else. And even food poisoning can be contagious between people (some types of food poisoning this is less likely though).

Yep this.

With two primary-aged DC, one of whom is extremely prone to sickness bugs, any time anyone is sick I immediately enact my sickness spread avoidance protocol 🤣 (Mainly involves lots of bleach, face masks, quarantining one toilet for their exclusive use and preventing the DC from getting too close to one another!)

It sounds extreme, but touch wood since doing it I have managed to limit the sickness to patient zero!

Fargo79 · 09/02/2025 21:44

Norovirus for me was a totally different beast to a normal tummy bug. Just absolutely debilitating and awful. I think we stopped actually vomiting after 3 days but it took more than a week after that to feel anything approaching normal.

NormasArse · 09/02/2025 21:50

It’s the pain and nausea in between throwing up, and my ribs hurt so much because the spasms are violent.

Everyone else here has already had it, but despite them cleaning thoroughly, I’ve obviously touched something, or perhaps the baby still had a bit of it and I’ve been playing with him.

We had to cancel his birthday party today- me puking in the background wouldn’t have worked ☹️.

@Noodlesand well, we only have one loo/bathroom and I have been sharing a bed with him, looking after him etc 😪 I guess I have to cross my fingers. It’s horrid to see him so miserable. Very unusual too so I can’t really complain.

I could not get on a flight if I was in the midst of an active stomach issue! Grim for all, least of all you.

Tryonemoretime · 09/02/2025 22:44

For me, Norovirus meant sitting on the loo and holding a bucket on my knees. Ghastly 🥺

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 09/02/2025 22:46

I’ve had it 3 times… 2010, that was horrific, coming out both ends relentlessly for 12 hours straight. To top it off, DS who was 2 at the time also had it.

2017, this wasn’t as bad, but did end up in hospital a week later after developing gastritis, off the back of it…

then June last year, hit the whole family. Dd was first on the Wednesday night, tbf she was only sick twice and had a slight accident…. Thursday afternoon she was fine. Friday afternoon, ds16 was getting ready to go to his science gcse exam when he threw up right before, an hour later DP tells me he’s coming home as he didn’t feel good, sick in the car on the way home, my sister then says she wasn’t feeling good and threw up at work so she came home, by this point I was up to my neck in bleach everytime someone was sick, washed my hand relentlessly, locked myself out of the way so I didn’t breathe near anyone, doors and windows were open, 4am on the Saturday morning I could feel my stomach turning, mostly diarrhoea for me and I was sick only once just as I was jumping in the shower. Was fine by 7pm. My mum had also thrown up just before me. That was the worst one by far, in terms of making the rounds. Usually only one or two of us get caught. Luckily I was the least aff3cted, poor DS had it really bad, I think he threw up about 15 times. He kept drinking little sips to keep hydrated

NormasArse · 10/02/2025 09:19

@Samandytimlucypeterolivia - sounds awful! The baby had it for 10 days here 😔.

I’m not throwing up anymore. I had some dioralyte last night, and I keep sipping water.

@WinterMorn - I absolutely wouldn’t get on a flight if it was ongoing. I have a couple of days to see how things are, and if ok, I’ll wear a mask. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone else!

Dh has it now, any tips on how I can escape? I'm wearing a mask near him and have sprayed all touch points round the house with disinfectant. I'm going to use a different bathroom and won't sleep in our bedroom tonight. Symptoms only started this morning so it may be too late Envy

Did you escape? I have it but no signs in DD or DH yet. Agghh it's so bad

No Confused

Thought I had until Sunday one of the kids came down with it, and I've woken up this morning with it.
