Cruise worked well with us, my DC also got into city breaks in warm places around this age as they like history, sightseeing and then spend an hour or two in the hotel pool.

FlyingSoap · 09/02/2025 16:16

What about a city break? Rome and Amsterdam are nice. It depends what they like I suppose but there’s always sights to see and different food, and each day is different rather than sitting around a pool all day which some teenagers might find boring at that age

Ddakji · 09/02/2025 16:20

It’s tricky, isn’t it? Do you have just the one?

We still do UK country cottages where we can have our own rooms as anything in a hotel means sharing which isn’t great for more than a night or two. DD still loves being in the countryside, going to the beach and scrambling around rocks and rivers.

We’re starting city breaks abroad but as we’re in London she’s not been too bothered so far! But she loved York.

Iwishiwasapolarbear · 09/02/2025 16:41

my ds is 13 this summer and we’re going to Greece. There is a water park at the hotel so he’s happy.

DemonicCaveMaggot · 09/02/2025 16:45

We did city breaks. We lived in the US so we went to New Orleans for a week at a time several times, Chicago, St. Louis, and Knoxville - which we did enjoy but I'm not sure you'd want to travel 2,000 miles to visit.

In the UK we've been to Edinburgh, Cambridge, Oxwich Bay (Swansea), and Arundel.

What’s the budget?

Radiatorvalves · 09/02/2025 17:29

Ours love active holidays. Most have been in the alps doing outdoorsy things… lake, Aqua park, zip wires, mountain bikes etc. also loved New York and sailing.

frozendaisy · 09/02/2025 17:29

New York

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 09/02/2025 17:29

Done a couple of great city breaks to Rome and New York.
As long as he has plenty of books he’ll read and listen to music and swim and eat nice food, much like an adult. He has more energy though so a gym or something is useful.

HamSandwichKiller · 09/02/2025 17:30

My only is slightly younger but we did Amsterdam and Duinrell last year which was a perfect mix of stuff that adults enjoyed / Tony's chocolate and a fun theme park.
We're going to Tenerife this year mostly because of Siam Park.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 09/02/2025 17:30

Skiing, summer in the alps and a chilled AI in October half term have all gone down well with our teens

Moorfellduck · 09/02/2025 17:33

How long is a piece of string really? California Road trips, multi centre Thailand, Carribean islands in an airb&b, multi centre italy on the trains, ai in Greece, NYC city break, Florida and the parks. All worked well for a teen. What does your DD like to do and do you have the budget to do it?

Londonmummy66 · 09/02/2025 17:35

Cornwall near enough to a beach with a surf school that they could walk there.

Agree - particularly with October - a last blast of sun is great particularly in exam years.

Sprig1 · 09/02/2025 17:40

We went to the Elan Valley in Wales with ours last year. We spent our days cycling, walking and wild swimming. It was one of our best holidays ever.

June we are going. You will love it what hotel are you staying. In.

Roundaboot · 09/02/2025 18:33

I agree city breaks. Barcelona is good as it has loads to see in the city, and also had the beach.
We also did an Explore holiday a couple of years ago. It's an activity holiday with other families. We all enjoyed it, although it was quite full on!

HerbertVonDoodlebug · 09/02/2025 18:37

Really depends on the teens I think. Mine don’t like cities, crowds, beaches or hot weather! What works for us is an AirBnB somewhere like the Lakes, Peaks, Wales etc - so we can get out for some fresh air and also have plenty of chill time back at base - also means we can leave them to sleep in in the mornings!

Sassybooklover · 09/02/2025 18:54

We have stayed in Premier Inns in the UK, and stayed in different parts of the country. Sight-seeing, museums, sea side, walks etc. We also have been abroad - mainland Spain, Balearic Islands, Gran Canaria, Corfu, Corsica, Sardinia and Kos. We do some pool/beach days, but like to hire a car and/or book tours, so we are seeing the area we are staying and eating in local restaurants. I only have a son, and he's now 14.

For us it was easier. Triple room until he was 15, then sep room if it was hotels. With holiday cottages no need to share a room with a sibling.

We always did walking and sightseeing, beach and surf and city breaks. Never really into theme or holiday parks.
