Twin coincidences

I'm not a twin but my great aunts are.( mid 80s)
My dm rang me to tell me that she'd just been told that both twins had been in hospital for 3 weeks before Xmas with an infection and have now unfortunately been diagnosed with dementia.
They live hundreds of miles apart and rarely see each other.
Is this a massive coincidence or is there really something "magic" about twins? I think its fascinating

I don't know but do find it interesting. It's quite sad that they live so far apart and don't really see each other though? How did that happen?

They just settled in different parts of the country with their dh and dc.They speak on the phone a lot apparently.

Well winter is peak nasty infections time for the elderly, and dementia is genetic, so it doesn’t seem v unusual to me (sorry to piss on your chips).

I agree with this. It's a minor coincidence that they were ill at the same time, and it's not surprising that their dementia would have developed along a similar timeline.

I'm a twin and I really don't like the suggestion that we are magically bonded and what happens to one must happen to the other, like we aren't individuals in our own right. It feels quite othering.

I have twins and one broke a wrist. A relative told the other twin that she’d break her wrist too as it’s a “”twin thing “ she refused to go on trampoline( how her sister broke hers) for weeks.

I do think twins have a bond because they tend to know each other better than any other person in the world. Especially whilst young. I don’t think there is a magical connection. I think people mistake correlation with causation and anecdata is rife with twins.

3 weeks each and the same diagnosis is very unusual in my opinion
