I’ve found an enormous - I mean enormous - old bible in the rafters of my loft

It’s got marriage, birth and death inscriptions in the front pages from 1840. It’s in a bad way but fully intact. What should I do with it? I live in an ex local authority properly from about 1950. It was behind the old wadding.

Someone with an active ancestry subscription can probably search ancestry trees to find a living relative to return it to. What an amazing find.

It's a 'family bible', we've got one, enormous with clasps. I'd try to trace back previous house owners to see if you could find ur who it belongs to. The names in the Bible will be a starting point. If nothing else, ask about the names on your local FB group. It would be so sad if a family lost this.

Put it back, it's guarding the house against evil spirits. Or witches. Or maybe the taxman. Something bad anyway 🌚

Check the ending to date it. If it doesn't have Jesus dying it must be 2000 years old.

What a wonderful discovery! There’s a Facebook page called Family Treasures reinstated UK which aims to reunite things like this with descendants of former owners. I’m sure they’d love to see photos.

No-one wanted it.
It's still in the loft.

Wow! We also live in an ex coucil house from the 1950s and also found one when we moved in. My husband is not a believer at all but he is damn superstitious... he put it right back!
