Tips to survive the weekend with no heating

Due to a monumental oversight by both DH and I - we have run out of gas. Due to be delivered Monday 🎉 plan was to be out all weekend but DD has woken up poorly today. Been ok so far, but starting to get cold. Had early showers, wearing jumpers and dressing gowns and all on the sofa with blankets and flasks of hot drinks.
Am I missing any other tricks? Considering a drive to make use of the cars heating which is ridiculous.
No hot water either but shower luckily electric.

I'd go to a hotel.

Hot water bottles to cuddle on sofa and take up to bed?
Go to a library where you can sit quietly in the warm?

IroningBoardAgainstTheWall · 08/02/2025 18:27

Just go to bed.

I'd go to a hotel.

I am tempted. Can't find much locally tonight, but maybe tomorrow. The local spa hotel has 25% off Sunday nights...

Buy an electric blanket, you’ll be so warm.

The library featured heavily in my original plan but I don't think DD is up to going out really and I don't want her to infect people. Off to find the hot water bottles.

Buy or borrow a fan heater or oil filled radiator

Yellowbananasarebetterthangreen · 08/02/2025 18:29

Hot water bottles are a massive win. Also wear multiple layers not just one big jumper etc. Leg warmers help a lot too.
Another big win is going for a walk, doing the hoovering - being active (even if only for 15 minutes) helps a lot to warm up your body temperature.

Keep busy, drink hot drinks, wear a hat and scarf, drape a duvet round you both, sit together, have an early night.
I honestly really feel for you.

This is a good point, think we will go to bed early and I will have DD in with me. DH is at work until 9 - I'm sure he is enjoying the heating there 🙄

Hot water bottles heated on camping stove if necessary and electric blankets.

Get someone to pick you up a couple of plug in halogen heaters from b&q or argos? You could probably have one plugged in by 8pm if you go now

Handy for future emergencies too

Good tip. I think I will order one for future emergencies but unfortunately we live too rurally to be near to a b&q or an Argos.

Just get under your duvets or sleeping bags if you have any.

Pancakeflipper · 08/02/2025 18:45

Ask neighbours to borrow their hotwater bottles, heaters etc.

Our boiler broke one winter and took 5 weeks to sort - our neighbours were amazingly great at letting us borrow.

Though a hotel for a weekend sounds tempting....

Was also going to suggest that... Do you know anyone nearby who you could borrow one from? Or do you have any local FB groups you could ask on?

Have seen posts on our village one requesting to borrow electric heaters before and plenty of people offered.

Or order one from Amazon for tomorrow? Depending on when it comes though you'd probably be nearly through the weekend...

TheEllisGreyMethod · 08/02/2025 18:59

We are lucky to have some very helpful neighbours so that is a good idea, I will Whatsapp them and see if they have any heaters. Thanks all, genuinely hasn't thought of that

Extra blanket over the top of the duvet, and a hot water bottle.

HumanBurrito · 08/02/2025 19:03

Layer up then put your mouth open between the other person's shpulder blades and breathe out hard. Captures loads of heat for instawarmth.

Moorfellduck · 08/02/2025 19:09

Just borrow or buy then resell 2 or 3 electric heaters- they chuck out the heat.
