7yo daughter and nose picking (and eating!)

My eldest daughter is 7, nearly 8.
She CONSTANTLY picks her nose and eats it....sometimes literally pulls the snot down into her mouth! 🤮

I've tried telling her firmly not to do it, continously say to use a tissue instead, have suggested using fidget toys, but don't even know if she realises she is doing it sometimes! (She is in the assessment pathway for ASD/ADHD so not sure if it's a habit related to that)

I've tried to encourage her if she MUST pick it to do it in private and use a tissue instead of eating it, but hasn't made any difference and like I say I'm not even sure

I don't want other children noticing and getting a bad impression of her because of it or her being teased for it, as she is getting older now.

But really don't know how on earth to stop it!

Ah - I think you have to take something from her she will mind about - toys or sweets money or whatever. Stick up a chart, note down when she is fined. Get her some nice tissues to encourage going to the loo also, and if she has a clear week, she earns a reward.

She doesn’t care about it, so you have to attach it to things she does care about

Thankyou- perhaps incentives or charts might work and some fancy tissues is a good idea!

Nailbite lotion on her nails?

Does anyone else say anything about it?
Surely if she does it at school etc, other kids will say something?
I think its something she will grow out of

We told our kids it was something to be done in private - toilet or in bed! Our kids are on ASD spectrum but high functioning and no ADHD.

I pick my nose.

I’m ASC and anything in my nose feels UNBEARABLE. It needs to be completely clear. I also can’t cope with long or ‘clogged’ toenails.

I don’t eat it but I did as a child. I obviously stopped at some point.

Now I use tissue and hand sanitiser.

Thanks for the useful replies everyone! Daughter has just this week been diagnosed with ASD, which might go some way to explaining it.She hasn't said other kids have noticed it, teacher hasn't mentioned it but assume she probably does it at school as don't think it's a conscious thing sometimes.Which probably explains why it's so hard to stop!

@Branleuse I did actually try the nail biting varnish! Didn't seem to work unfortunately.

I will keep encouraging her to do it in private and use a tissue and hope she will stop.I do remember doing it too as a child so perhaps it's hereditary! 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️😅
