Hi can anyone interpret these blood results? I read the lymphocytes to be higher than neutrophils or it’s a sign of inflammation or even cancer. Mine are the other way around so I’m panicking. I feel ok it was just routine bloods .

Both those counts are within the normal range.

DuckWithOneWing · 07/02/2025 18:54

The numbers in square brackets are the normal ranges. So it's normal for neutrophils to be up to 7.5, and for leucocytes to be up to 4. So thinking logically, your statement can't be correct otherwise the reference ranges would make no sense.

Chickyegg22 · 07/02/2025 20:19

That’s what I thought but it says lymphocytes need to be higher than neutrophils maybe within normal range ? So confusing and when I google I get cancer coming up ….

who says that? they're talking nonsense.

Why do you have your blood results ?
why isn’t your doctor explaining this to you ?

A doctor wouldn't get in touch to explain normal blood results.

MissEloiseBridgerton · 07/02/2025 20:44

Both these results are within normal limits. Whether one is higher or lower, is not relevant at all.

I'm glad it's just not me who wonders why on earth posters are on MN asking about blood results. I expect my doctor to tell me if anything is amiss, otherwise I don't worry about the results.

MySpringBreath · 07/02/2025 21:02

The ratio of neutrophils to lymphocytes can have 'diagnostic significance' but in this case, yours is normal and nothing to worry about.

nocoolnamesleft · 07/02/2025 21:05

That's normal. (I do actually wonder whether apps allowing access to raw results are a benefit to everyone. If you understand them, it can be great. But there are so many threads on here of people stressing out over perfectly normal results)

pimplebum · 07/02/2025 21:05

Is this a private test ?
I am still trying to work out how you saw your blood results ..
I hope you feel reassured , but please remember that results need contextual context depending on your whole medical information
so what may be normal range for one , is a concern for someone else
none of us are your doctor, please check with them

It's a massive issue in the NHS - lots of people finding out that they have cancer/it has come back via their app rather than in an appt.

I actually found out I had cancer when the OOH nurse practitioner mistakenly opened my biopsy report on screen, instead of my sputum report. Luckily 1)I knew thyroid cancer is about the least bad one to get, and 2)I was due to see the surgeon the next day. But yes, I can imagine how seeing something like that on the app would feel. And no, I didn't complain. The look of horror on her face showed she'd learned her lesson, so I tried to act as though I hadn't seen it until I got out of the room.

Causes no end of issues. I had someone complain I'd written fell over when they claimed they'd said tripped. Wasn't even for an insurance claim. I asked what happened she said she fell over her feet in the street, then claimed she said tripped. Was a total waste of a lot of peoples time
People scrutinise all of these notes and results for anything they want to find or this feeds into the (huge) health anxiety issue. I think it's useful to have a result that perhaps says normal but the numbers just create issues.
