Would you report historical abuse

So I’m at my wits end trying to decide what to do and would appreciate other people’s thoughts on this. Would you report a historical (non sexual) assault against you when you were a child. A family member treated me and my siblings badly at times - being aggressive, mean, sarcastic etc. generally not nice. However he has also assaulted me and my sister on a few occasions and kicked our pets (just for context). I’m in my 40s now and only just realising how awful things were. He never had any repercussions from his behaviour and my mother is still with him (she’s knows what he did btw). Should I report his assault on me (throwing a hot drink on me was the worst). I know it might not lead to any conviction but I sort of feel that I want to stand up for my child self (if that makes sense).

I’d recommend contacting NAPAC and having a chat with them. It’s an organisation that covers the entirety of abuse in childhood. They can talk it through with you and help you reach a decision.

It makes perfect sense.. There is definitely something in listening to your inner child.
Go into it with your eyes open and low expectations of a charge from the police (if that's what you want) it's disgusting that your mum has stayed with this man, is she aware of everything he has done to you?

Sorry this has happened to you , it should not have , your mum should have protected you

Are you prepared for the fall out with your mum and other family members when this person is convicted and goes to court ?

are you prepared for the fall out if he is NOT convicted despite your best efforts

iwhat would sway me to a yes would be if he is currently abusing anyone ?

what do you hope to gain from reporting it ?

wishing you all the best either way

Yes, she is. She knew when it happened (over 30 yes ago). She didn’t believe me. He has since assaulted my sister in front of other family members as recently as 5 years ago. She’s still with him

Thank you. I haven’t done this as I thought it was not ‘serious’ enough but maybe it is.

Thanks for your message. I’m don’t have the closest relationship with my family at the moment anyway due to this (my sister made an allegation of historical sexual assault when she was a child but again still not believed by my mum). I have been NC with my mum for two months now as she has refused to do anything about it. She things we are ‘too sensitive’.
