Can you have an ongoing urine infection that just comes and goes?

I'm 50. I am trying to get a GP appointment but seemingly impossible at the moment.

For last few months I can't stop weeing. Go for a wee, immediately need another. Go for a wee. Get downstairs. Need another. Sometimes I sit on toilet waiting for a wee and nothing comes but feels like I really need to.
Some days are like this.

Other days are totally fine. Can last hours without a wee. Don't think about it.

I've not changed water intake.

I'm thinking it could be menopausal? Ongoing urine infection but I'm not ill and it's been months.
My terrifying fear is it is ovarian cancer.

I was just looking for some reasurrance that it might be something less scary?

(I am keeping trying for GP appointment)

Anyway any experience?

I’ve had one since after Christmas currently waiting to start my 5th lot of antibiotics. It’s awful. Can’t go out always and it’s so debilitating. You have my sympathy

Literally my my 40’s and 59’s were like this. Always at the doctors who sent me for various tests that always came back as normal. My doctor eventually put me on low dose trimithoprine which I take at night before I go to bed. It’s done the trick.

You can get test strips to see if you have an infection. (They are dirt cheep, and the same as the dip test the dr surgery uses).

I had this , after a while I was so stressed because it was a nightmare , I treated for thrush because I had very minor thrush symptoms again on and off like the UTI symptoms. This really helped and I was fine within a week.

In your 50s? Very likely to be vaginal atrophy due perimenopause/menopause. It itches, burns when you do a wee and you are forever getting up in the night to wee.

Get some vaginal oestrogen (either from GP or at pharmacy) and see if this sorts it.

Possibly kidney stones?
Just something to be aware of. They can rumble away for ages.

It's this. Vaginal oestrogen will help clear it up. If your GP doesn't agree ask to speak to the menopause team. If they don't have one then kick up a fuss because they should have one. And ask for a gynaecologist referral. It is honestly cheaper to set up a menopause team than see hospital specialists.

Also the instructions are every day for 2 weeks then twice weekly. It is very likely you will need more than this.

I sometimes forget a dose of mine, my body reminds me very quickly!

Interstitial cystitis?

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 07/02/2025 01:24

Do you have endometriosis?
Interstitial cystitis?

Thanks everyone. That's really helpful that it could be any of these things.

There's no itching or burning tho and no pain and don't feel ill?
