Depends on the patient and why they are in.. I spent the whole day chatting with her every day.

A patient in hospital needs to rest, so they certainly don't need visitors for more than 90 minutes per day!

What an odd generalisation.

I mean I can understand why people drive to drop an elderly, unwell or be-plastered patient. But I've come across plenty of fit adults who won't consider the bus!

Just seen update and 45 mins is a fair old distance. I'd probably drive that.

Will still roll my eyes at people who could be taking a direct bus though and free up a parking space! Less stressful for them too.

The other option, which I've done myself in the past when my dad was in for several weeks, is to park on a street along the route of the Mickleover Flyer bus and get that in as it stops right outside the hospital. Or park at the Florence Nightingale/London Road Community Hospital (I forget what it's called now!) and use the hospital hopper bus. The parking is an utter nightmare at the minute, but the multi storey that they're building is very much needed.

@Phineyj

With the exception perhaps of the London hospitals, most large hospitals serve both urban and rural areas and those of us in the outlying towns won't have a direct bus service to the hospital, and the last bus is often very early evening, for those who live in villages there may be no bus at all! Derby hospital serves the city but also a large rural area, it's also not even in the centre of Derby so those from the other side won't have a direct bus.
