Why can’t I get my feet warm???

Rawnotblended · 04/02/2025 18:45

Just that really! Even wrapped up in a heated throw, or with cashmere socks, they are permanently like blocks of ice. It affects my sleep, and by extension DHs sleep as he lets me tuck them between his thighs.

I’ve tried warm baths etc which help but I can’t do that in the middle of the day. I’ve had blood tests recently and it was all clear so this is mysterious!

Hot water bottle for nightime, best £15 ever

SushiSheep · 04/02/2025 18:48

Double socks.
That's the only thing that works for me.
I wear a pair of pure wool, then a pair of DC's fluffy socks on top of that.

I have this and Dr diagnosed raynards.

You need to move about more to increase circulation and get the blood pumping back into them. A few minutes skipping or on an exercise bike if have one would do it.

Lovebirdslovetea · 04/02/2025 18:54

I think that’s a sign of diabeties

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 04/02/2025 18:57

Double socks is the way. Makes quite a difference, even though it sounds simple.

Jillfi · 04/02/2025 19:03

Hot water bottle at the foot of the bed.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/02/2025 19:06

have you tried those Heat for your Feet or Heat Holders socks? I have a pair and they are the only thing that will warm my feet up in bed if I'm not well and have a chill.

If you're in good health but with crap circulation then yes, do a bit of llight exercise or housework to get the blood pumping half an hour before you go to bed. Put the Heat for your Feet style socks on. Have a hot drink. I've got an electric heat pad for my back but sometimes when my feet are freezing in bed I put it over or under my feet for a bit. Woollen blanket folded over and on top of the quilt and if your feet don't warm up after all that then that' ssomething for a GP to look at.

Massage your calves and feet regularly too.

If you're going to do this make sure they're definitely not too tight.

Is this a new issue? What tests did your GP do? Thyroid, iron, peri hormones, Vit D, HbA1C for sugars?
I'd be returning to your GP to check for Reynaud's, one of the above of not already tested or a nerve, conduction issue.

LightedCandle · 04/02/2025 19:16

I have this and it’s definitely a hot water bottle for me. My hands/feet are always cold as I have very low blood pressure due to hEDS. I struggle with a lot of touch controls too as my fingers are so cold they don’t register. The oven & hob are my constant frustration! My daughter calls them my ‘corpse fingers’ 😂

Surfacelevel · 04/02/2025 20:19

I suffered with cold feet for as long as I can remember. The only thing that helped me was medication which I was prescribed recently for my chillblains. I was advised not to use hot water bottles in bed as they can cause chillblains so be careful of that when trying to warm your feet up.

kitchenhelprequired · 04/02/2025 22:20

There will be a reason, you need to find out why to be able to properly treat. In the meantime this week in Aldi they have a hot water bottle foot warmer for £4.99. It's fluffy with pockets for your feet which rest on a hot water bottle.

Yep all normal apart from slightly high Vit D. I have a history of low ferritin so I’m monitored regularly for that but I’m all topped up at the moment and have been for the past couple of years.

That’s interesting! I also struggle with touch screen stuff!

Have you tried sleeping with your feet elevated?

EarthyMamma · 05/02/2025 16:00

I'm exactly the same OP!

Well, I was when I was younger. I have always had a hot water bottle and worn thick and cosy socks.
I can't imagine that I ever left the house without a pair of gloves.
Menopause made it far worse too.

Then I had Covid badly in 2020, followed by Long Covid. One of the symptoms is that my hands and feet are marginally warmer. However recently they are getting cold again. I wish the other symptoms would also disappear.
Every night I have two of the long hot water bottles in furry covers, one along my body, the other to wrap my feet around.

I'm going to look at some of the socks recommended on this thread as my feet are really chilly today.
I think I might have Covid again, for the 7th time...

medievalfreak · 05/02/2025 16:02

bed socks and electric blanket, love them

EarthyMamma · 05/02/2025 16:05

Just about to get the heated throw out too!

doodleygirl · 05/02/2025 16:06

sounds like Reynauds

Rogerisourlodger · 05/02/2025 16:09

My freezing hands and feet started after having covid, could that be the same for you OP?

Previously we'd had a holiday in the Arctic in winter at -35 C, now my hands are painful when it's slightly chilly

mathanxiety · 05/02/2025 16:47

Loose fitting wool socks that go all the way up your calves. I have a pair of hand knitted men's wool socks that are very chunky. They are loose fitting - I couldn't squeeze them into any of my shoes or boots. They keep my feet toasty all night.

A hot water bottle in bed to warm the foot area before you retire for the night and when you're settling in.

Exercise during the day to improve your circulation. Also, warming spices like cinnamon and ginger if you like a hot drink in the evening.

nightmarepickle2025 · 05/02/2025 17:00

I've got an electric foot warmer from Amazon
