Hey everyone 24 year old just looking for some tips on my vaginal colposcopy I have up coming ... some back story been having a few pinkish bloods after sex and using my sex toys went to the gp she looked at my cervix said to her it looks like cervix erosion she took swabs for infection they was clear she now referred me to get a colonoscopy she said she's not concerned bec she's really sure its a erosion but she wants to double check incase
But I'm still worried

Any advice on how to prepare for a colonoscopy thank you x

There’s nothing you can really do before a colposcopy. Read the information so you know what to expect.

Just to avoid the same confusion as we've seen on another recent thread...

You have the right procedure - colposcopy - named in the thread title, but not in your text.

A colonoscopy is for the bowel, not the vagina.

No idea about colonoscopy but for colposcopy - make sure you wear a pad because you may bleed a little bit. Also ask them to warn you when they take a sample. That way they can do it on exhale (much less painful - I do it every time for Brazilian wax). Take paracetamol or ibuprofen & follow the instruction on the leaflet. It’s not a very pleasant procedure & you may be a little sore after but you’ll be ok x

I had one when I was 25 after my first smear was abonormal. I had to have some cells burnt off but it wasn't painful. I took some ibuprofen and paracetomol beforehand. They asked me if I wanted to watch on the camera... no thanks!

It's a little uncomfortable but not as bad as I was expecting.

mellissaahsj · 04/02/2025 14:30

@Roomarmoset thank you glad to know it went smoothly for you do they tell you everything on the day or do you have to wait for your doctors to get back to you ?

They told me on the day. They were very lovely. I did take my mum for moral support but I asked her to leave because my legs were in stirrups and I felt a bit exposed 😂it was like having a smear test, it just took a bit longer.

Welshiegreen · 04/02/2025 14:37

It's really not that bad! I was terrified about it being painful and literally said 'Is that it?' when it was done!

You'll be fine!

Fawn87 · 04/02/2025 14:44

Nothing you can really do except try and relax as much as possible while it's being done. It should not hurt but it can be uncomfortable. I've had a few and to be honest only the first one was uncomfortable. It's not really much different to having a smear test, it's just it lasts longer.

Fawn87 · 04/02/2025 14:45

Mine was due to a polyp which they left but there was a spot or something on my cervix which they burst.

Yes take a pad, wear comfy pants, pack some chocolate and paracetamol in your bag for afterwards ❤️ if they let you I would take headphones and music or a podcast to take your mind off during the procedure and do not look at the screens! But it’s fine.
