Nits, no lice?

Have your children ever had nits without lice? Is that possible? Lice was going round her class last month and so I checked DD every 3 days with the conditioner and nitty gritty comb for about 2 weeks and nothing. Then last week I found what I thought could be a nit but no lice so I wasn't sure. My mother in law then checked her the following day with nit comb and said she didn't find anything. It's been 5 days and I have checked her again and found again what I think are 2 nits, but no lice. I spray her hair every day with the vosene defence spray but off to buy some treatment just in case.

I think a nit or several nits make their way over first, from another person’s hair. Then they will lay eggs -not sure how long after they arrive or if it depends on where they are in their life cycle. So I guess it is possible to have nits without eggs, but not for very long.

I would keep checking - the big ones are the easiest to find and get. Eggs and tiny baby nits (nymphets?) are harder to detect.

I think "nits" are the eggs? Or even the hatched eggs.

So I think you get eggs, nits (hatched, empty eggs) and lice?

The eggs cling onto the hair shaft. The hatched ones are usually just a horrible, gravelly, mess in a clump on scalp.

I've had the opposite lately. Have found a couple of lice but haven't been able to find any eggs/nits

Yep I mean the eggs is what I have found. I can't seem to find any crawlies though. Will the treatment kill the eggs or am I best carrying on with conditioner and nit comb?
