I used to go on a (totally normal, nothing dodgy) website and went there for years. One day I went on it and someone was posting pictures of children, i won't go into that any further but as soon as I saw it I logged out and called the none emergency police because the guy was freely posting it and also offering it for sale.

Want to make it clear that I have no intention of going back on there...

The police came out and I told them everything including his username etc

Police the said as they were leaving 'You can't go back on there now, remember everyone has an ip address..'

Its just got me thinking tonight.. I used that site for ten years without a single issue apart from that one night and I'm no longer 'allowed' to go back on it.. does that apply for every website?

as in if someone started posting child abuse on youtube or on mumsnet or any other site for example am i supposed to avoid them too and never ever go back on them?

I reported it straight away and it sort of feels like i'm the one thats done something wrong.. just trying to make sense of what the police meant and was wondering if i can really be banned from going on a website because someone else is doing something wrong/bad/illegal?

On a FB group I was in, someone posted indecent footage. They were reported to the police etc. No one was told they could not go on FB anymore.
However, I did worry if the video was in my cache memory thing.... as in, if I took my PC to be repaired, it would still be on there and I would get into trouble.
