Recently realized I can join due to my profession.

Family of 5, but the nearest store is 35 mins away so wouldn't go super frequently - would it be worth it?

You did well to borrow someone else's card, the one my friend goes to uses your face as id, a photograph is stored against the card to prevent it being shared. If your face doesn't match against their photo they cut the card up. So the card holder must be present.

Edited

Sorry my post was badly worded, the friend was present and got us past the door but I paid for my own shopping 😊 thankfully no cards destroyed 😅

I will say though, for events (am on PTFA) the giant crisp boxes and cans are fab.

At the one we use they are really cracking down on cards being in date , numbers of guests etc last time we went they stopped some youngish men going in and sent them round to membership services .

The one near us, about 10 miles, has a petrol station so we make back the membership cost by filling the cars a couple of times.
If you buy branded products like washing powder then there are savings to be made by buying in bulk. Other stuff is not often cheaper although generally good quality you do need to have the space to store the large quantities or a large family to eat the catering sized packs of hummus.
I am not convinced that the milk is stored very well because it goes off quicker than when I buy it in Lidl or Sainsbury's and I have noticed that quite a lot of the fresh fruit is from the USA, not a surprise it is an American company but if air miles bother you it's something to think about.
