A test that is reliable? Ive seen various things online but am wondering if there's a standard test the nhs uses...or a gp...

Thanks

We paid £2k to have a consultant paediatric psychiatrist assess our son

Not a test as such but a series of interviews observations and assessments to measure reactions and recollections of past behaviours.

It's easy to get a diagnosis if a person actually has adhd. It cannot be faked despite popular belief

A pretty extensive assessment with questionnaires about childhood, ruling out other things etc. Why?

Usually it's a series of questionnaires, history and observations - but DC did an online thing recently were they had to look at dots on a screen and use the mouse to click where the coloured dot was in the sea of black dots. You could see his aim got appalling as he lost the ability to concentrate over time. It was just one thing in a host of other information though.

Yes and no: my DC was diagnosed via the NHS and DH was diagnosed privately (after being on the NHS waiting list for 3 years) so I have experience of both pathways!

The NHS diagnosis pathway was far more full-on and did include a test, called the QB test. This was one of the final stages before the diagnosis was made. The first time my son did it was online at home (covid years) - but I ruined it by physically picking him up and returning him to the laptop when he fled in tears because it making him so mad and miserable. Turned out I had the wrong end of the stick: it's purposely designed to be the most boring test in the world. And by intervening I'd sabotaged the results (oops). So they ran it again, in person, with me in a waiting room.

The private diagnosis pathway did not include the QB test or any test, just 2 Zoom interviews and 2 questionnaires: one for DH and one for me as somebody who knew him well.

I don't know if the differences were due to age (child/adult) or the NHS/Private difference, but the DS version certainly seemed more stringent and thorough.

For adults: standardised questionnaires, input from someone who knows you well, two hour interview with psychiatrist. NHS.
