Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. I'd rather have still been sleeping after getting in from gig 1 of dd's year of gigs, for her 18th birthday, but Mountaineer Kitten had other ideas 🙄. He's gone off back to bed somewhere upstairs now & I'm considering snoozing on the sofa for an hour.

We haven't got anything much planned for today. I need to do a bit of prep for my lessons this week, and make a start on some peg dolls for work. And both girls have homework to be done, so they'll get on with that.

Dd2 asked dd1, yesterday, if she'd nip into town with her for some new trainers today so they'll do that at some point. And dd2's uniform needs washing...it conveniently made its way downstairs while I was out with dd1, so her PE kit and shirts were washed while we were out, but not trousers and jumper 🤷‍♀️. I'll put the washer on when I get up next & they can hopefully line dry for a while.

I have no idea what we're eating tonight - possibly a frozen pie, with chips, veg & gravy. That'll be followed by early showers and early nights ready for the coming week 💤💤

What about all of you? 🙂

Morning @lucysmam and all happy Sunday.
I was out early this morning for a 10k run along the Thames. It was beautiful if a little chilly. I put a wash on before I went out. That's now I'm the dryer while I warm up in the bath.
Meeting my Dad for lunch and then home for a relaxed evening before the week ahead.
Enjoy your day everyone.

gingercat02 · 02/02/2025 09:58

Morning @lucysmam and the Sunday crew.
I think I'm getting the cold DS had last week, slightly sore ear and throat. DH is starting a new job tomorrow, so it might be a quiet one here.
Off to my class in 15 minutes, so best finish my coffee.
Have a good day, everyone

PrincessHoneysuckle · 02/02/2025 10:03

Morning all, I LOVE this thread but never participate so thought I should actually write something too Grin

We are redoing DDs room to make it a bit more grown up so Saturday evening was ridiculously spent in IKEA and today we have shelves to put up and drawers to put together.... but will be so lovely for her to have a room that suits her and the desk we found is lovely, I want it myself!!!

Is gorgeous and sunny here so hoping to get out for a walk too.

Easy dinner of chilli from the freezer as we'll be busy all day

Have a lovely day all

TrickyD · 02/02/2025 10:13

Hi Lucysmam
I’m drinking a cup of coffee in bed having already been given a cup of tea and a pikelet with marmite by DH who has now gone off for a bike ride.
We are going away next Sunday so I will be assembling my stuff to pack and do any necessary washing. We will have to leave at 3am to check in by 5, and I never trust DGS1 to be ready for an early start so he is staying with his dad the night before.

I’m going out for lunch with DS and to look at new cars, for him not me. DH is doing some DIY in the hallway and it involves a lot of noise so I just want to be out.

Maybepossibly22 · 02/02/2025 10:54

Morning all! I love this thread so trying to contribute weekly from here on in, and get some ideas.

Uniform ironing already done and a wash load has just finished so will get that out shortly. DH is cooking brunch, sausage, eggs and hash browns. DS has just woken from his nap and DD is playing, she’s begging me to help tidy her room so will do that after brunch. Then will plant my seeds from the January “pot gang” subscription - want to get my balcony to an edible garden state but need an idiots guide so the boxes seem to be ideal.

Have a lovely Sunday all!

lucysmam · 02/02/2025 11:00

I've just been woken up from a sofa snooze by dd2 grumbling at me that dd1 answered about going into town...with her eyes closed 🙄. It's not her fault we were out & we should be up, apparently <sigh>.

So, I'll make a coffee, hang the washing, and get on with my day I suppose.

Morning all

I was up early which was a surprise. I was out during the day with friends. It was great fun.

Pets all been fed. DH is out with DS at his sport. I’m trying to wake DD to get her washing down.

The rest of today will be spend sorting uniforms and getting a shop in. Hoping to read my book and maybe a wee snooze. Oh the dog needs a big walk too.

Fairyvocals · 02/02/2025 11:12

Morning! A beautiful sunny but cold
day here.

I’ve had a gentle start - DP brought me and DD breakfast in our respective beds, so I ate toast and drank coffee while reading my book.
DP dropped DD off at her Sunday club while I showered and got a load of washing on. One more to do, plus lots of sorting and putting away.

Need to start prepping lunch - we’ll have it late-ish once DD is home. My dad’s coming round and we’re having Nigella’s chicken with leeks and peas, with apple and berry crumble for pud. DD will be excited because we’re mostly vegetarian but we’re rolling out the chicken for my dad!

Not sure what we’ll do later - I’d love to watch Conclave but we may well fall asleep on the sofa like we did last night!

zingally · 02/02/2025 11:18

Had a rubbish nights sleep, which is disappointing, as Saturday night into Sunday is my only day of the week to sleep in. Just couldn't really settle, woke up loads, and in the end got up about 7:30.

Lovely sunny day here, so pottered in the back garden for a little while, picking up a few little bits of rubbish that must have blown over in the recent storms. Then made up some rolls and put them in the freezer for future packed lunches.

Next job is to book parking for the cruise I'm going on in April, and then print some bits for the private tutoring I do during the week.

ShiftySquirrel · 02/02/2025 11:20

I'm on my second cup of tea. I've cooked tonights dinner and am contemplating going for a walk for some me time.
This afternoon I'm visiting my grandma who's coming towards the end of her life. She probably has days/weeks left rather than months. She's well prepared and has lived a very long and interesting life.
There's lots of family around visiting and if she's up to it she'll enjoy hearing everyone's news.

This evening my parents and siblings will be over before they head home.

ShipshapeShore · 02/02/2025 11:29

Feeling sorry for myself - caught another virus on top of the one I've been struggling to shift all January. I'm fed up and grumpy!! Could be worse, I'm just being a brat.

Decafflatteplease · 02/02/2025 11:55

Morning @lucysmam and all.

Lovely morning so far here, Sundays are always my turn for a lie in but today I swapped it for a bath and it was glorious! Used up the last of my lush Christmas bubble bars. DH brought me a cup of tea 😁

Then it's just been homework for the DC a d putting uniform away etc. lunch in a bit, still working through the Christmas cheese! Then possibly a trip to the park this afternoon.

Pie and roast potatoes for dinner and chocolate cake!

Zippedydodah · 02/02/2025 18:46

Good evening @lucysmamand everyone, it’s a case of better late than never I hope!
I’ve been on a wonderful art journaling weekend in Gloucestershire, two days of having a wonderful time, eating fantastic food and all in a mansion on a hillside.
Back to reality now…..

Just found this thread- Peaceloveandhappiness how are things after your cataract surgery now?
I had surgery 48 hours ago, so still finding my feet. I had both eyes done at the same time, and just resting now, keeping up with the eye drops, listening to audiobooks and snoozing under a blanket.
I felt very tired yesterday, I was given sedation for the surgery, but I am still feeling snoozy.
My vision is coming and going, artifacts, rainbows, light scattering, but I can already see in the distance much better than before. Near vision isn't great yet, but I have an old pair of reading glasses that seem to work at the moment.
I am not sure if I will need reading glasses once I have healed- the surgeon said he would do his best to ensure I needed no glasses at all, he implanted EDOF Premium lenses
We will see after the next 4-6 weeks how my eyes are working.
I hope your recovery goes well, Peaceloveandhappiness, and to others waiting the surgery was painless and quick.

Nothanksiwillwalk · 15/02/2025 09:14

I love a what are you doing today thread - they do pop up every now and again.

Today, I'm in the bath mumsnetting. I've got 2 weeks annual leave so I'll jump out in a min, race around the house cleaning before having lots of "me" time.

The children are all teenagers with busy social lives in a city with excellent transport so they sort themselves out.

I've lost lots of weight and now a size 10 so one of my fav things to do is to go mooching around the charity shops, which I'll do today. I've had absolute bargains recently with some really lovely good quality clothes. For the first time ever I have a great wardrobe with flattering clothes.

I'll also have a long walk today with dog.

Dh and I are out tonight locally so I'll be having a glass of red wine.

Life feels good enjoying simple things 😌

speakout · 15/02/2025 12:45

I so agree about the simple things Nothanksiwillwalk, they all add up* *to something powerful. Seeing new shoots in the ground, birdsong, clean sheets, all these small things in our day deserve to be noticed and lift our heart a little.
Well done for losing the weight- a great achievement. I am with you all the way on charity shops, my local one is my happy place!
My surgeon has given me the OK to resume all my activities, including my yoga classes- 8 days after cataract surgery. I thought I would have to wait 4-6 weeks, I was overjoyed to be given the go-ahead.
So I am just back from a yoga class, eating scrambled eggs on toast and a hot chocolate.
My family are fairly self sufficient too, so I plan to have a slow pottering day, lots of breaks.
The only downside of my improved vision is noticing dusty skirting boards, drips and dribbles around the house, but I am resisting the temptation to have a major deep clean. I still need to heal, so things will get cleaned over time.
