Do people honestly like going to Hen parties?

I'm in my early 30s so they've been popping up fairly frequently over the last few years and to be quite honest I absolutely hate them!!

I'm not a party animal at all and I don't have one big friend group so the ones that I go to are usually a mixed bag of people who don't know each other - so inevitably because I'm socially awkward I end up drinking too much for the confidence and I don't enjoy being drunk at all!

I hate that more and more of them are away from home and for more than 1 night so I lose an entire weekend (I work full time so weekends with my 3 year old are precious to me!). I hate that it all costs me a fortune.

I used to love going out in town in my late teens/20s but now honestly clubs are my worst nightmare!

I never feel like I can just say no like I would for an ordinary night out if i didnt fancy it, because its a special event for friends/family that I care about a lot.

Does anyone else feel like me or am I just the most miserable sod around 🤣

Apart from my own and my sister's many moons ago, I've never been on one. I think I've had a few clash with booked holidays. Mine was low key with just four of us, local restaurant and general silliness for one evening. I would not, on principal, attend a hen do abroad or a wedding abroad (and I no longer fly anyway).

Runingoncaffeine · 01/02/2025 23:31

Mine is next Saturday! I am just doing a day thing. I think my friends have organised a spa, and drinks out in the evening. Perfect!

Agree that the abroad ones are completely over the top, and so demanding of the bride to be tbh. Went to one abroad in 2023. Never again. Ended up spending about a grand!

Wow. Could you fit any more misogynist tropes in there? Also newsflash - Benidorm isn’t exactly a MN hotspot. 🙄

Nothing misogynist about it & no worse then another post on here, sorry forgot guys not meant to have opinions & plenty from MN go to Benidorm 🤣🤣🤣

lilytuckerpritchet · 01/02/2025 23:32

I've always enjoyed them, everyone is on good form and there's often an activity. I've done inflatables, dance class, crafts, quizzes , cocktail making, theatre. What's not to enjoy

Sorry that me being here offends you, I will leave 😪

honeyfox · 01/02/2025 23:41

They are not an issue anymore as I'm 46 but have been to a good few in my time. Luckily none were overseas and very few were overnight, I enjoyed them all even though I can be antisocial. I've even been to a Sten (joint stag and hen) which was great.

CoralHare · 01/02/2025 23:43

I hate them in basically every form they take. I hated my own too but did one to appease everyone else.

Wendolino · 01/02/2025 23:44

When I was in my 20s and my friends were getting married, hen parties were fun, usually a fairly small group going for a meal or to someone's house for a buffet made by their mum and a few drinks!
Then I was invited to one for someone at work- great big group, most determined to get hammered, pub crawl, it ended with the bride-to-be bottomless in the men's toilets in a pub, weeing in a urinal.
Since then I've been very choosy whose hen party I go to!

huuskymam · 01/02/2025 23:52

Nope, I hate them and baby showers and baby reveals. Never been to any and never will. My niece is getting married next year, she told me she's not going to bother inviting me cause she knows how I feel about them. I love my family 😂😂

Whitesapphire · 01/02/2025 23:54

The only one I’ve ever been to is my own! I had a great time but we just kept it local for an afternoon/evening, I don’t think I’d like going away for a few nights it would be too much for me.

Neighbours87 · 02/02/2025 10:26

I do. I like my friends and am happy to celebrate them

I don’t think you have to leave… just find it a bit odd you posting on this particular thread. I think the OP is looking for shared thoughts among other women? But I could be totally wrong!
