A question for hairdressers? Do I need to break up with you or is it ok to ghost?

Been going to my hairdresser for 5 years. I really like how she does my hair. We get on. We have a laugh.

However she has got busier and busier and you have to book appointments months in advance. Everytime I go she is clearly juggling 2 clients at once. She starts my appointment 20 -30 min late cos she's finishing someone else. Leaves me waiting while she sorts someone else out. Leaves them waiting while she does me. I feel she seems to insist on 'treatments' and feel like it's an excuse to finish off someone else.
My hair takes ages as it is without waits but I'm in there 3-4hrs and I hate it.

I want to try another salon where they might not do this?

I feel soooo bad tho on hairdresser. She says I'm her favourite client and looks forward to me coming in.

Do I need to explain that I'm going somewhere else or can I just not contact her to book another appointment?

I can't believe I'm feeling so bad about it!

I wouldn't worry about her saying you're her favourite client. She probably says that to everyone!

Flowers665 · 31/01/2025 20:34

You don't need to tell her you're going somewhere else, it might be polite to but it's unnecessary. If you do, she will probably ask why so you need to be prepared for that.

Before you do that can you try booking an appointment but say when booking that you have to be in and out by x time. Either she can accommodate that or not. If you’ve never so far given the impression that you need a shorter time then it’s a bit of a drastic step to move away from a hairdresser you like without even trying to make it work.

Everyone will be her favourite client.

My hairdresser does a colour, highlights, cut and blow dry in about 1.75 hours.

My time is as valuable as hers. I think your hairdresser is being disrespectful.

I'd just find a new one.

She doesn't treat you as a favourite if she regularly keeps you waiting...

Try somewhere else.

Secondguess · 31/01/2025 20:38

Book elsewhere.

If you happen to see her and she mentions it, just say (truthfully) that you're pleased her business is doing so well, but you had to make an appointment elsewhere as you needed an appointment on a certain day / time.

She's actually being pretty unprofessional so don't feel guilty.

I expect she tells everyone day are her favourite client.

Why give her more consideration than she is you?

I went to get my hair done three months before my wedding. The stylist barely spoke two words to me then left me alone the whole time to let the colour take, came back did the necessary and still only a handful of words.

I did not go back.

Don't say this. Tell the truth.

You don't need to say anything. Just boom somewhere else.

Don't feel bad. She doesn't mean it.

Just book at a place that suits you

monsterfish · 31/01/2025 21:36

Just ghost. Keeping clients waiting 30+ mins is not on - I have left quite a few salons for this alone. If you don’t tell her you leave the door open to come back one day.

bear in mind if you were 30 mins late for your appointment they would charge you & then turn you away.

Mydahliasareshit · 31/01/2025 21:57

Is anyone else getting nostalgic flashbacks of Brucie telling all the Strictly contestants 'you're my favourite'? 😄

MrsPerfect12 · 31/01/2025 22:01

I had that with my last hairdresser, some times my hair was practically air dry by the time she came back. I was often freezing too. I just didn't go back.

Lighteningstrikes · 31/01/2025 22:36

Unless she’s as cheap as chips, an excellent hairdresser and you’ve got time to waste, just don’t book again. There’s no need to explain or justify yourself to her.

Pearl97 · 31/01/2025 22:40

I would go somewhere else first. You don’t want to have to go back with your tail between your legs. Check the grass is greener before you say goodbye!
