Shipping trip with daughter give me some words for wisdom

Taking my daughter shopping this year for her birthday she's going to be 11 something a bit different she's got a budget of £100 . She's already saying about the tat she's going to buy fake nails, a Starbucks, another teddy , pens, a bag , stuff she's got already loads of

It's winding me right up I know it's her birthday money but I can't stand just buying tat I need to remember this is her birthday trip so within reason she can spend it on whatever however there's a part of me that thinks she already has so much stuff ....

Personally I would give her the £100 and let her spend it on what she wants. Then when she has bought 'tat' but in a couple of months wishes she had bought a pair of trainers etc then it's a lesson learned.

DD is 13 and at 11 would have done the same as your DD but 1 or 2 times of 'wasting' her money she is now pretty sensible and is learning how to save + budget for things she really wants rather than just spending for the sake of it.

Starbucks is a teen staple so we just buy her Starbucks gift cards for when she goes out with friends. In a 5 hour shopping trip they probably spend 2 hours in 'Starbies"

We always encouraged strongly to save half and spend half how she liked - good habit

I don't do sole shopping trips unless going out for something specific.

I'd change this to a nice day out to cinema, something to eat and then a mooch around the shops to spend a little of the money so the focus of the day shifts

My DD is now a grown up and moved away 26 year old. We have always been and are still very close (as much as distance will allow.)
I miss the birthdays where she would drag me around town buying heaps of tat from Claire's, Primark and Top Shop and going to various cafes and fast food places too!
Embrace it OP. I would love to pop back to my DDs 11th birthday, hold her hand and give her a sniff! You have plenty time to encourage her to save money when she starts to earn it for herself.

She’s 11 and 11year olds like tat! I’d go around the clothes/shoes sections first to try and tempt her but at the end of the day it’s her birthday and she’s only 11 once!
