Can I make a formal complaint can’t get appointment

I have diagnosed depression and my sleep is effected. and ironically I have been trying to get medication for my anxiety and depression so that I can improve my life but appointments are months away and they tell me to phone at 8am but I can’t because I’m not awake. I tried emailing to book one instead but they tell me that they can’t.

This idea that "if you really want to wake up you will do" is so damaging as it completely ignores the hugely damaging symptoms and consequences of depression and other mental health illnesses.

It's akin to "buck up" and go for a walk..... depression is a debilating illness and there should be systems in place which are accessible to all patients.

Absolutely. And re all these people baying that OP 'can't be bothered' (or words to that effect) getting up in time to ring them, nowhere has OP said anything like this, in fact she updated that she has rung them. She has explained that she sometimes sleeps through alarms. This sometimes happens when a person's sleep is out of sync, which would seem pretty logical to most people although some pps on this thread can't seem to get their heads around it. If you haven't ever been in OP's situation, think yourself lucky instead of trying to pull down someone who is struggling.

OP, I hope you can get the help you need.

Absolutely this. Sadly I think some of the pps on here probably do think people with depression should just 'snap out of it'. So much ignorance.

Oh, the irony that you mention 'grown adults' in another of your posts. You're hardly a shining example of maturity yourself judging by how you've acted on this thread.

It's a totally shit system, but 99% of the country have to do the same. Set alarm (if we're not already up and about for work etc) and get in the queue.

At some stage, you need to take responsibility to get it sorted.

This. We all know the NHS, and especially GPs are now a shit show, but patients have to help themselves as well. 🤷‍♀️

Totallymessed · 02/02/2025 17:22

So, in short, OP can:
Homeschool a child.
Start a thread on Mumsnet.
Make an official complaint to the GP surgery.

OP can't:
Set an alarm and get up at 8 a.m as a one off.

Makes complete sense.

So many people have given her this advice about trying to help herself (and in turn her dc). However, she has just been responding rather aggressively, as have some other posters.

I'm not really sure what the motivation was for her post and what kind of advice she (and the angry posters) are hoping for....🤔🤔🤔

I seen that that yeah ! Even seen comments saying oh it’s like asking a “normal” person to call at 3am. If I desperately needed to see a doc I bloody would call at 3am then go back to bed ! Honest to god. NHS is on its knees as it is never mind having to spare staff to look at “complaints” like this

I'm not sure posting about being mentally unwell then saying someone has a 'mental problem' paints you in the best light either tbh.

Why not? They were banging on about being better than me because of my mental health issues. But to do that you need to have some kind of issue yourself, and I was just pointing that out because I’ve stopped being as bothered

And yet here you are again, being "bothered". Take a step back - you are seriously acting no better than those you are criticising.

I was initially bothered, but now I’m not. I also know the tone you’re using with me has nothing to do with me and is probably because you have your own problems.

Yes you can make a formal complaint to your GP surgery about anything at all you like (or don't as the case may be!), they are used to it, some patients do like to complain about everything!

Ironically it is their problem because they are the ones who should be treating my anxiety and sleep issues

This is just a wind up post.
