If you have a surface near your front door... what's on it?

For no other reason than nosiness and DC is off sick watching pure shite on TV

My hallway table is currently host to:
-car keys
-pocket tissues
-toothbrush and toothpaste (waiting to go upstairs)
-phone charging cable
-a godawful vase waiting to go to a charity shop (I got suckered in at the antique shop in a haze of stress when I bought it)
-a brand new book and jar of enormous paper clips which will be donated to the schools tombola
-three old devices that need recycling

I decluttered and redecorated a couple of years ago and am trying to be more disciplined about having stuff everywhere. My hallway is very small. I have 2 tiny windowsills and a shoe storage cabinet. One windowsill has a plaster bust on it. The other has a nice lamp on it (we tend to use that rather than the main light). The shoe cabinet has only an Amazon Alexa spot on it. You have to go through a door to the stairs and doors to the kitchen and living room and we have a tiny cupboard at low level which houses the Wi-Fi router and other electrical gubbins - that usually has a pile of books I have read which are there for any visitors to help themselves to, or to go to the charity shop next time we go there.

A little basket with some car keys, a packet of tissues, and a pair of socks.
A bag of stuff that needs to go out to the recycling bin.
DC's school bags.
A dominoes leaflet that was delivered today.

It's a coat rack with shelf above, small basket with wooly hat, sunglasses and dog poo bags!

Antique ladies desk covered in picture frames. Three drawers.

Left drawer, tools for me, tennis balls for dogs. Middle drawer, keys , car, radiator, windows. Right hand drawer, hats and gloves.

Husband throws mail on it which I stick in the office.

A ceramic lidded bowl with all our keys in it. A plug-in diffuser for essential oils. A lamp. A vase with a dried flower arrangement. A wifi booster.

On the floor beside the hall table there's frequently a pile of Amazon cardboard boxes waiting to go out to the recycling bin and a couple of bags for life waiting to go back to the car.

No shoes or coats. We have a walk-in cupboard for those.

Wait. Your dog has a dressing gown?

We have a shelf with a radiator underneath.
There is a pot with random keys in it.
A torch (rural house, very dark at night)
My car keys
Lots of beanie hats hanging on the radiator (we have a bald person in the house so cannot go outside without a beanie Sept-June 🤣🤣)

OrsolaRosso · 31/01/2025 21:03

I have a radiator cover with a shelf across the top. It currently has the following:
Sunglasses
Half drunk bottles of water
Unopened post
Some spray cleaner for removing bird poo off the cars
DD's school tie and Explorers scarf
A box of tissues
Things DD has made in paper craft club
A hippo container for car keys.

If you have a surface near your front door... what's on it?
Gloriainextremis · 31/01/2025 21:13

If I listed all the things on surfaces and the floor in our hallway we'd be here all night.

Brief synopsis:

On top of the meter cupboard are 4 houseplants, a letter rack, a reed diffuser and a torch.

Side windowsill has many little animal and bird ornaments on it.

Shelf unit under the window currently has a trug with gardening tools on top, a box of hats & gloves on the middle shelf, and the bottom shelf has a road atlas and some maps of the local area.

The floor - where do I start....?! Ye Gods. Now I know what I need to do this weekend.

Wait. Your dog has a dressing gown?

Edited

Yes. Of course. It helps to dry her fully when rubbing her with the towel isn't enough. 😆
