Feeling like a boss! Just finished reading White Teeth

It's a long book 😄

Next its Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix, I'm about half way through

I've set myself a goal to watch as little tv as possible in Feb - dunno how well it'll go 😅

Anyone finally finished anything? Ready for feb?

I read enormously and widely. White teeth is a fantastic book. Try the kite runner and the life of pi next. I read several books a week.

Several books a week is amazing! I used to do that as a young teen but lost it 🥺🥺

I want to go Feb without watching tv at all, or as little tv as poss! I imagine you must avoid tv to read that much?

I've got:
Harry Potter
A book by simone de beauvoir, in French (I'm at a2 so want to try and get through a few pages, using my dictionary, but it is quite ambitious)
A seemingly chick lit book called the man who didn't call
Carrie soto is back

I'll add kite runner and life of pi to the list, see how cheap they are on Ebay

Well done! The feeling when you’ve got back into reading and finally finish something is great. I’ve made a good start to the year having read 2 books in January. In some years I’ve probably read 2 books all year.

I do watch telly. I'm autistic and hyperlexic, so read incredibly quickly and completely shut the world out when I'm nose into a book! I'm also single with no caring responsibilities 😉

Oh thats an amazing ability though

I'm autistic as well although with low needs. I do find hyperfocusing possible, but i find it hard to kind of get there sometimes

My dd is autistic with high needs and I'm trying to get her to read and she hates it 😩😩

Discworld is a great series to work through. You can go in publication order, or by subject. The witches and Tiffany Aching are my favourite ones and can definitely be read fairly quickly.

Ha! People see me as the perfectly capable full time worker, plus mum of 4 adults. Just don't ask me about housework or socialising 😉

Ahsheeit · 02/02/2025 22:33

Agree with the disc world series too!

Have you read All The Light We Cannot See? If not, add it to your list.

😄😄🙌

I find I'm a scatterbrain. It's weird because I want to socialise but only like once every few months - no-one else wants to do that with me 😭

Book two down (carrie soto is back)🥰, now it's a kids classic that I never read, to kill a mockingbird

Is there a book thread or page?

I've had to ditch to kill a mockingbird so I'm doing jack kerouac - on the road

I wanna get through it as it's a classic but its so youth focused and I wasted mine 😒 x

Do you manage to actually absorb what you are reading? I've often wondered this about people who say they read a big fat book in a day, or several books a week. Unless it's a short book, or absolute fluff, I don't see how it's possible to get through a book that quickly and still properly take in the detail of the plot and the dialogue.

I am the opposite of you, I'm a slow reader. My eyes start to droop after a few pages when I try to read last thing at night, so unless I'm on a long flight or something it can take me ages to get through a book. But at least I know I didn't skim it and I did it justice. I can't imagine I'd get much pleasure out of whipping through a book. It would be like listening to a great album but all speeded up. You are listening to it, but not as it was meant to be heard.
