How to recover from toxic bosses?

I've been in my current role for a year. I have a lovely manager. I speak to him once a month. Job is going very well he keeps singing my praises.
But before every meeting I feel nauseous, shaking and thinking I'm going to be sacked.
I had 2 very toxic micro managing bosses in the last few years and was always being criticised and told I was terrible.
Why can't I move on? It's been a year.
Anyone got any tips on this?

I'm in a similar situation.

I've been told I have PTSD from the situation, but trying to get counselling is proving difficult. I left a message for my GP asking to speak about getting counselling, but not what I used last time, which was very specific and I felt it had run its course.
I got a text saying "go back to where you went before".

However speaking to someone who knows more about such things they said that a year is not a lot to get over what I went through.

I'm sorry to hear that. It's difficult to get others to understand. It's amazing how much your confidence gets shaken. I thought new job and company I'd be able to shake it off but it's still hard.

I can't even drive past my old work without feeling like I've been hit in the chest. Actually I can't even pass the end of the road.

It feels totally ridiculous.

I’m so glad you have found a good manager who supports you.
I’m about to start a new job after leaving my last one due to a toxic boss and I’m scared about how it will go. Someone today actually suggested counselling which I hadn’t considered before but I will now look into

I hope I'll get to this point some day. I'm still in the place and struggling to get out.

Today a Co-worker texted me (on my day off) to say "we're in trouble again" and I spent the afternoon in tears.

Not sure how to get past it but following this thread with interest as I'm in the same position. 5 months out of a role that I was in for nearly 18 months. My boss micro managed me, put me down constantly and gas lit me (and others).
I'm so so relieved to be out of that place but I'm constantly surprised by how often I dwell on my time there.

I know what you mean. I used to have mild panic attacks when I used to go past the building on the bus.
We moved soon afterwards but I still see the adverts on tv and my heart pounds.
With the 1st boss he left the company and took a more junior non managerial role at a smaller company. The 2nd boss was sacked a month after I left. Still unemployed. Both made me feel better.

I know exactly where you are coming from having suffered a toxic management team in my last role. You name it - they did it. Micromanaging, blatant favouritism, selective memory so they could blame me for their bad decisions.

I have moved on to a much better place but the scars are still there. I would say it takes about 2 years. Just try to let it go, they have used up too much of your time and energy and trust karma to catch up with them. Make it a lesson learned and enjoy what you currently have.

Does your workplace have a counselling service? Sometimes organisations have employee assistance programmes which give you access to a few sessions. Just a thought in case it is an option for you. Mine has a self-refer set up which I know makes me lucky. You are recognising that you are triggered which is good, it means you have a chance of being able to take steps to improve it. I hope you can relax more very soon.
