Jumper appears to be "rotting"

I have a lovely hand knitted jumper I bought in the Shetland Isles about 25 years ago. Holes are appearing in it, but I don't think it's Moths. When I've tried to catch/sew the holes up the wool seems like it's disintegrating. It's not over worn or over washed. Has it just come to the end of it's life, or is there anything I can do?

Zips. Trouser zips. Are the holes in the front?

moth larva also cause them to fall apart, harder to see. Happened to my fathers cashmere sweater

It’s 25 years old. I think it’s done well to last that long.

Have you seen clothes moths before? They're quite small. They seem like the likely cause of this to me

I find wool jumpers get a bit holey if they are put away a bit grubby.

Does it feel oily at all? If so, that's moths.

Also - it's 25 years old, it's an organic fabric, it'll decay eventually.

One hole is on the side, that's a big one, the other on the front, but more to the side so i don't think it's the zip causing problems. It doesn't feel oily, if anything it feels dry.
