Electronic drum kits

DD is coming up for 13 and is asking for a drum kit for her birthday. She already plays piano and I think she'll put the time in to play. But I don't know where to start! Definitely looking at an electronic kit, needs to be adult size. Anyone have one that they would recommend? Or is it all a bad idea?!

My daughter drums and has a Yamaha one, it folds up a bit too which helps. We bought it 2nd hand. When I was looking there were many for sale on facebook marketplace and on eBay.

That's a good point, I wasn't thinking about second hand but that's a much better idea!

Make sure you get headphones too!

I got electronic drums for Xmas.. from PMT online (we have a physical shop nearby)
My dh went in for recommendations and came away with a Tourtech 20M set.. (and an amp)
I bloody LOVE it! Very easy to set up, quite compact and sounds fab. I can plug in headphones and my phone (with an aux cable) and play along to Spotify if I want to.
I also recommend Musora to learn... online. I have been learning the Piano through their tutorials (very comprehensive not like learning from Youtube etc) and the Subscription is for both Piano and Drums for 23.00 a month! It takes you from the very basics, like how to hold your sticks and has you playing along quickly but with all the right stuff.. practice for timing, ear training, everything.

I might like it even more than my piano Grin

Just to add, you need an Amp too to play out loud, otherwise it;s through headphones. I can also plug in my laptop with the aux cable ( I prop it up behind the tom toms) so I can listen/watch the teacher while I'm playing.

It's trickier than I expected in some ways, (my foot for the base drum gets tired) but brilliant for improving my timing on piano too...and just SO MUCH FUN.

Thanks @Sonolanona ! In a lucky turn of events, DC's grandad is selling his drum kit so it looks like we can buy that, but might need to get an amp separately. I hope DD gets as much pleasure out of it as you clearly have with yours!
