Removing bins-anyone else's council done this? So annoying!

A couple of years ago my local council took away three bins from a common dog walking area. I assume this was necessary to cut costs however the inevitable has happened. A lot more litter and dog muck! It's SO annoying. There's a remaining bin on the main road (which seems seldom used and obviously won't be on everyone's route) nearby and the nearby graveyard's bin, the latter of which is often overflowing with dog poo bags and other garbage.

Lately, someone has been hanging carrier bags off the fence around a pond, and folk have been using those. They disappear regularly so I don't know who has taken it upon themselves to empty them, but people do seem to be using them. Good idea? It doesn't look nice but neither does rubbish and dog poo! Aside from health/safety/hygiene reasons too.

It's very annoying and I just wanted a vent about it but also to ask if this is something a lot of councils do now? Bins are so important-I asked a different council for a bin in an area I used to live in as it didn't have one and they told me it costs £600 to install a bin and then obviously the upkeep for someone to maintain and empty it, so I do understand it can be a cost issue.

Have you tried speaking to your locally councillor? My mum was successful in getting a bin at a bus stop reinstated a year or so ago after she got in touch.

Sometimes councils test the waters by removing a bin to see if there is demand, and sometimes they just can't afford the upkeep. I have noticed that more and more places are removing bins and asking people to take rubbish home with them.

I think i am going to ask on our local fb group to see if anyone has already done that, and then I'll act accordingly. It has been a couple of years though-so maybe it has lost its traction but the issue just seems to be getting worse and the carrier bag installation made me realise just how many people are affected by it, there's a lot of them and they're changed regularly. I know It's not a 'me me me' situation but I do feel that it would be much better if we didn't have to do this. Someone's obviously emptying the main road one, another one surely wouldn't be too much hardship.

How did you get on? If no one else has I’d 100% just ping your local Councillor an email explaining. It’s surprising how much power they have!

Even if someone else has, it's worth contacting them anyway. The more people who express concern the better.

Talk to your parish council - they have put up a couple more dog waste bins here in response to these requests.
