Restaurants in stranger's houses

OK, "restaurant" is maybe a bit of an exaggeration (!) but I need to know if anyone else remembers a trend a few years ago of going to someone's house and them cooking for you? Like an amateur chef in their own house? With other strangers there?

All pre-Covid obviously.

DP thinks I'm imagining it! I never actually did it but I remember it being a bit of a thing. It must be true, the Guardian was all over it!

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Did anyone do it?

My neighbor does this.

I think Sabrina Ghayour started out hosting supper clubs. She still does a few although though more “restaurant takeover” style now.

I went to one which hosted by a Masterchef semi finalist. He did a series of events during evenings using a tearoom’s facilities. Food was enjoyable and there was an eclectic mix of people around the tables.

@Heyjoni not Cornwall no. Rural though!

'Restaurant in my Living Room'. Seek it out on tv streaming or you tube maybe. Looks like hell on earth and I've no idea why anyone would choose to do this but, yes, they did. Entertaining tv though.

Sabrina did a Come Dine With Me. She was patronised and sniggered at by a couple of odious Notting Hill-ers throughout the programme until she cooked. Which they could not. She, quite rightly, won.

I hosted a series of 8 or so supper clubs in 2010/11, serving 4 course meals for 30people each time, all coordinated via twitter. Was a great year, it was much fun.

Yes I remember her on CDWM - they were vile to her.

I didn’t mean she did the supper club tv Programme, but that she actually hosted supper clubs. She mentioned it on one of her social media platforms.

Yes, this is one of the original ones. Always wanted to go - she lives round the corner from my old flat in London. (I've since moved away).

I went to one of these a couple of years ago, it was fun! She has a beautiful garden and the food was great.

About a million years ago I went to one in Majorca. 2000 probably. It was wonderful.
