What job does your teenager with autism do?

Asking for a friend whose son is approaching 16 and wants to get a part time job around school.

He’s not sure where’s best to look, so send ideas/experiences please!

For context, he is diagnosed with ASD, is in mainstream schooling, no particular interests except gaming and just wants to earn a few quid.

I’d describe him as quite socially immature overall, can speak to strangers but definitely not what you’d call outgoing. They live in a city so hopefully something is out there for him.

I’m stumped for ideas as I don’t have a child his age.

Paper round /leaflet delivery - short, formulaic interactions with the public where necessary. It also gets the blighters out of the house.

Mine works in a local dog day care place.

She pretty much supervises and plays with dogs, feeds them, cleans up any messes and takes them out for walks. Once a week they load them up into a mini bus and take them all to the woods/beach/dog field - she says it’s like taking small children out on a school trip.

Shes a bit older and at college so has a couple of days off a week, rather than evenings or weekends.

That sounds great! We actually have a place in the area like this, so I’ll definitely pass that on.

I’m not sure paper rounds are a thing here now, but I do get a lot of shite adverts through my door and they live nearby, so that might be a shout.

He’d be more than happy with AirPods in and working on his own. I’ll take a note of this for them, thanks!
