As you age, what change in your appearance do you most miss or regret how it's changed.

I'm 66 and generally happy with how my body is ageing.
I'm fit, active and healthy, size 10 clothes wise and mentally very alert.
Was looking through some photos from my 20's & 30's & was struck by my lovely eyebrows in every close up photo, sadly now a distant memory.

In my 60's I'm just left with very sparse looking brows, almost invisible, which I pencil in, but they really change the whole look of my face.
So what do you miss in your appearance as you are ageing?

I'm 46 and the only thing bothering me at the moment is the crepeyness starting to happen on my neck. I don't care enough to do anything about it but I do think yuck when I see it in the bright light.

FoolishHips · 27/01/2025 15:42

To give you hope though (as someone said they'd lost flexibility), I'm more flexible than I've ever been after a few years (on and off) of ashtanga. When I started it was a struggle to sit cross legged and now I can do lotus. Can also stand on my head!

ItsByThere · 27/01/2025 15:46

My face skin. When I was in my 20s it was the only thing that made me feel good about myself. Had my children in my 30s and let my skincare routine go and now my face doesn’t look like me. Lines, pigmentation issues etc.

Gulbekian · 27/01/2025 15:49

I miss the blueness from my eyes. I used to have amazingly bright blue eyes - people always commented and asked me if I was wearing coloured contact lenses. But somehow the colour drained alway when I was around 45 to 50 and now they're jut a normal blue 🙁. It's like I've lost a part of my identity.

RosesAndHellebores · 27/01/2025 15:52

I'm 64. My face and hair are OK but my cleavage and a little space at the back of my arms are a bit crepey nowadays. My waist that was tiny and is no more and my hands - how I wish I had looked after my hands.

Boope · 27/01/2025 15:52

The old saying "face or figure" is very very true.
I'm 66 and used to turn heads. From the neck down I don't look any different to when I was 26, still have a good shape, never gained any weight. Unfortunately from the neck up it's a different story.
At 26 I had razor cheekbones but at 66 my face is just hollow looking and lined.

My upper arms. Slim but not toned. Don’t really like wearing sleeveless or strapless. I started to have spider veins on my legs in my 20s (work/ pregnancy) and even tho I still am a uk 6 it’s hard to conceal both your legs and your arms when looking for clothing. I should work out / lift weights my arms are not beyond toning and I have saved a whole library of arm workouts but I look at those weights and think…nah. It’s interesting to me how similar many of the comments are…all part of what I call “natural Aging”.

Saggy under-chin.
Depleted lady-garden.
Skin looks okay but has lost its tautness and looks crepey easily.

And as others have said, formerly gorgeous eyebrows gone to hell. Eyelashes ditto - once reasonably thick and long, now sparse and short.

Hair still good, only half a stone overweight, generally fit and healthy, so count my blessings regularly. I've also gained the confidence of the arsey about-to-be-old-lady, so things I used to angst about I just DGAF about now.

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 27/01/2025 15:56

Weight gain.

foxandbee · 27/01/2025 16:00

I am awaiting the arrival of a certain poster.

I try not to hate how I look, because at least I have made it this far. (61). But I do wish I hadn't over plucked my eyebrows in my youth.

Yep!

Nicecatneighbour · 27/01/2025 16:02

Buddha belly. I still have a small waist but this little pot belly is not budging. 🙄

TinklySnail · 27/01/2025 16:03

I don’t regret anything. I kind of really miss I my pretty face because pretty privilege is a thing and I want it back 🥺 I’m not going to go and have work done though.
Oh I also miss my periods weirdly enough 🧐

Dutchhouse14 · 27/01/2025 15:05

My whole face has drooped and sagged like a basset hound.
Boobs have also drooped but OK with a good bra.
I really miss my toned slim midriff and the ability to lose weight relatively easily.
My hair has also thinned.
And I also liked it when I didn't have to check for sprouting chin hairs every day!!

All of this. Plus my previously smooth skin.

Disturbia81 · 27/01/2025 16:11

Well this is a bit depressing, why would you want to remind yourself and others about stuff they don't have anymore?

zoemum2006 · 27/01/2025 16:13

I am 50 and a size 10/ in good shape (so overall quite happy with my aging).

However, the lines under my eyes are terrible! My skin is youthful elsewhere but my eyes! Yikes! I like to wear my glasses to hide the bags.

I'm serious thinking of getting some sort of treatment.

Lifelover16 · 27/01/2025 16:13

I’m 66 dont have many wrinkles and have smooth skin - such a shame it’s all slithered down my face and most of it is now under my chin .

Londonmummy66 · 27/01/2025 16:33

The grey - started when I was in my 20s so I've been dying it for more than 30 years now. Its still a very ugly streaky mess (white in front and darker behind) if left to its own devices and blonde doesn't suit me so I think I single-handedly keep my hairdresser in business.

user8432176409 · 27/01/2025 16:39

Eyesight. Hate glasses with a passion.
Jowly face. Eyebrows have gone grey, but hardly any greys on my head weirdly. Hair is still remarkably good condition actually…
Have lost muscle mass and get fat quickly without extreme diet discipline.
And the excruciatingly painful hips and knees take up all my capacity for worry, so I may look absolutely awful, but can’t summon up the energy to care!

Tolkienista · 27/01/2025 17:01

Great replies so far. I'm with you all the way & enjoying reading your thoughts.

What puzzles me about the loss of my once lovely eyebrows, is that my eyelashes are still luscious and my hair too is exactly the same thickness as when I was young, so for those two areas of blessing, I'm extremely grateful.

On the whole I am pretty happy with my lot but where I used to get dark shadows under my eyes after a heavy night - they are now always there and I hate them with a passion.

Oh I miss not going to bed looking fine and waking up with a massive bloody hair sticking out of my neck
