Baby Ballet experiences?

I took DD (nearly 18 months) to a Babyballet trial last week. We already do a swimming and music class (she loves both) and otherwise fill our times with toddler groups and playdates (I am a SAHM) but I thought it might be nice to try something new. The class was friendly and fun but a lot of focus on turn waiting and staying on the mat, both of which (but particularly the latter) were tricky for DD who just wanted to explore the room. She was the youngest there by 6 months and it really showed. She definitely wasn't able to follow many of the instructions, despite generally being very good for her age at following commands. I'm unsure whether to go again. I have friends who rave about Babyballet but their children are in the 6-18m class so maybe that is less structured? Can I ask for people's experiences of it and when their DC were best able to enjoy it? The location and timing suit us very nicely and maybe I should be aiming to give DD more structure(?) but I'm not sure I want to continue if I'm going to spend every Friday trying to hold DD in one position for the forseeable. I know the lady who started Baby Ballet and took DD to the very first lessons!
The whole point of it was to get away from the strict class structures and exams etc of traditional ballet classes. It always used to be very casual and while the kids were encouraged to participate it wasn't a big deal if they ran around a bit too.
However, its now franchised so I suppose it might vary depending on who runs it but BBHQ was always just about the fun rather than anything else.

That's interesting @Hoppinggreen.The teacher was very nice, I think it was mainly that most of the other children were closer to 3 and obviously have been going for a long time and so her instructions were more geared towards them. I was also very conscious that DD was distracting them...

I didn't take my DC to anything structured or paid, except swimming, until they asked to do them. We did a lot of unstructured things! I think there's ridiculous pressure to have kids in things so young & it is more about the parents than kids, so just do whatever works for your child.

DD does ballet after asking at 5 to do it (8 now) and DS has tried a few things but found his place at Scouts.

The total unnecessary but very cute uniform was one of the main attractions Grin
