Really daft question re kids packed lunches

My reception aged DD is going on her first school trip tomorrow. We have to pack them a lunch (she normally has school dinners). She will be carrying the lunchbox with her during the morning. I plan on making her a sandwich m, cucumber sticks and a yoghurt drink among other things. Do you just stick your child's lunch box on their bag or do they need a cool bag / ice pack?

I know it sounds daft but I never eat sandwiches myself - do they last in a lunchbox all morning or do people somehow use cool bags?

I put a thin ice pack in.

In this weather there's no need for a cool bag or ice pack. As it starts to warm up I always pop an cool pack in . Hope lo has a great trip

My children have the cool bag style lunch boxes and I do normally stick an ice pack in there.

However if you wanted to keep the weight down for carrying around, you could freeze a yoghurt pouch which will keep things cool as it defrosts and will be ready to eat at lunchtime.

I make sandwiches with frozen bread (easier to spread) so it gradually defrosts. Given how cold it is atm I reckon it will be fine without ice block. What filling will you use? Most normal ones (ham, cheese, tuna) will be absolutely fine. Hope she has a great day on the trip.
One tip - don't overfill the lunch box. Kids really don't need that much and they end up leaving it, or just having a bit of everything and wasting it. Sandwich + fruit/cucumber is fine.

Assuming you are in the uk no need for an ice pack. When it's warmer I freeze a frube or capri sun although the paper straws are a bit shit, or I put a small ice pack in. You can get bag type ones from the £ shop usually that are lighter.

I always pack an ice pack because I've worked in schools where they store the lunches near a radiator and no-one thinks about these kind of things 🙈
