Early morning newspaper

I live in a ground floor apartment and an upstairs tenant has a newspaper delivered every morning at 6am. We have keypad access to our property and the tenant has given the access code number to the paperboy so that he can drop the newspaper on the mat inside the door rather than place it in her outside postbox. Unfortunately the door has a loud buzzer which is activated every time it is opened and it wakes me up every single morning.
I’ve had pancreatic surgery and also suffer from heart problems and once I am woken up find it impossible to get back to sleep again - my Consultant has told me that it is important that I get a good nights sleep.
Any helpful suggestions please?

Speak to your neighbour and ask them to ask the delivery person not to come in to deliver?

Go to bed earlier? A lot of people get up at 6 or before.

Wear earplugs.

See whether the buzzer can be switched off between certain times?

Do you gave a management committee or residents group, as the problem is the buzzer not your neighbours newspaper. Could just as easily be a nightshift worker coming home for example.. its the buzzer that isn't suitable

Yes I’ve tried to address all the issues.
Apartments are especially for the elderly built in 2017 and ideally situated 100 yards from a bus stop, GP surgery and Dentist
I already go to bed early (10pm).
Neighbour doesn’t give a shit because it doesn’t affect her and she can pick up her paper whatever time she likes.
Buzzer doesn’t wake me as I don’t wear my hearing aids in bed.
Opening the door sets up an air lock in my apartment which rattles the doors and windows.
We do have a management Company so thanks for that very useful suggestion. I will contact them.

I understand it's annoying but 10 pm to 6 am is a good 8 hours?

I agree 10 till 6 is a good night's sleep.

Keep taking her paper . That will stop it

Change the access code.

Letstheriveranswer · 27/01/2025 17:32

To begin with you said it's the buzzer waking you.
But in your next post you said the buzzer doesn't wake you, it's the movement of air caused by the building entrance for opening, making your windows and doors rattle.

Surely an apartment built only 7 years ago shouldn't have rattling windows and doors?

Can you put extra insulation strips in the frames, or felt dots to stop the wooden doors moving against their frames, or leave your bedroom door open at night so at least that doesn't rattle?

BabysittersClub · 27/01/2025 17:45

If the buzzer isn't waking you it's the windows rattling then I don't think this is something that your neighbour should be worrying about. I think you should try and find a way of stopping the rattling.

Wish I could actually sleep for 8 hours and I have thought about making the newspaper disappear but couldn’t face the thought that the paper boy would get it in the neck.
Thanks for all the sensible suggestions I received and the stirrers gave me a laugh. Have come to the conclusion that my best bet is to move to a little bungalow in the near vicinity but moving when you are in your mid 80’s can be a bit daunting.

Can you leave a window open a crack so a vacuum doesn't form. Mine have a 'setting' for want of a better word for this so they are locked but barely perceptibly open.

Viviennemary · 28/01/2025 07:50

I don't think the paperboy should be given the access code. I agree contact the management. He should not be entering the building at 6 am. It's a security breach IMHO.

Grandame · 28/01/2025 10:46

Thanks for picking up on this Viviennemary I totally agree it makes me feel vulnerable and I don’t even give the code to family. Plus the fact that there has been more than one paperboy delivering so of course each one has been given the code 🤷🏻‍♀️.

White noise machine, ear plugs and a draft excluder under the door to stop the rattling. White noise machine has been game changing for me, I recently went through an operation too and found even small noises were waking me, with the noise machine I just sleep through it now. Even if the security code gets changed it seems like the door will be opened by them buzzing them in or going to get the paper or just someone coming and going not related to the paper.

It's open to abuse. Would it invalidate your insurance if it's known beyond the residents?
