If so, do you like it?

Thanks @TheHomeEdit. Do you mind telling me which model you have?

Yes I have the Polestar 2 and love it

mondaytosunday · 26/01/2025 17:07

No but they do have the dumbest of ads! Just thought I'd put that out there 😁.

CertainUncertain · 26/01/2025 17:12

Thanks @Runnyyolkplease. How have you found charging on longer trips?

@mondaytosunday Haven't seen them, but will check them out 😀

We had a company car Polestar 2 and we were both happy when it went back. It drives like the wind , was fun that way, but the turning circle is useless, the reliance on cameras ridiculous in Yorkshire winters and the rear windscreen so small you don't feel comfortable relying on looking out of that when reversing either. The cockpit is very small and cramped (and I am not tall!!). Things like the connectivity to Spotify etc is great; we never had an issue charging/ range etc, you just have to be sensible and plan ahead.
All in I don't think I'd go for one again. I sat in a neighbours new Mini electric the other day and was amazed how big that felt inside, much better than a polestar

Thanks @Neighneigh. That's useful information. I think we need the 3 - 3 kids and a big dog, so need something on the larger side. If we go for it, I'll definitely check out the window situation. We're in London, so the winter thing won't be a big issue, but the turning circle will be.

When I was considering buying an electric car I visited the pop up they had in The Trafford Centre, a very nice young lady working there told me to buy a Tesla instead.
I did

That's hilarious.
We had a Tesla salesman tell us to buy a EPace Jag instead!

We have a Polestar 2 and both love it, been nearly a year. It is a company leased one and no issues with turning circle as someone else said. Cameras can be turned off if you don't like using them. It is great fun to drive. Charging on long journeys not been a problem. There are chargers all over the place, not had an issue getting a high speed one en route while we have a coffee break.

We are in the SE.

Would never have a Tesla because Musk.

Me and DH were laughing our heads off only last night at their silly ad. Grin

We're getting rid of a Tesla. Have loved it as a car, and the supercharging is fab, but it's got to the point where we just can't mentally separate it from the political situation.

I will be keeping mine.
I hate too many millionaires/Billionaires to let it influence my buying choices.

We have a polestar two and love, driving it. Pre-heat function at the moment is amazing. However, as others have pointed out the turning circle is awful visibility when you’re turning right at a junction isn’t great. Apart from that it’s a great car

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/01/2025 18:17

DH had a test drive in one and he often needs to transport several of DD's teammates to matches so was looking for something that could comfortably take three in the back. The Polestar 2 has quite a high ridge so that whoever sits in the middle at the back has to have a foot on either side. DH also said that it felt huge to drive, bigger than his previous car which was a VW Tiguan.

He bought an MG4 instead, which was pretty cheap but also feels pretty cheap like it's been recycled from fizzy drink cans. It drives well though and is big enough to fit 5 comfortably but small enough to be easy to park.

Runnyyolkplease · 26/01/2025 18:31

Never had an issue charging, on fast chargers it doesn’t take long at all. The range is great and the google maps sat nav is accurate in terms of estimated mileage for trips.
I have no issue with the turning circle or the cameras - but I have never really relied on the cameras for reversing and prefer to just use mirrors.
Agree that the cockpit is small and the position of cup holders is crap!
Preheating it for cold days is amazing, and the kids love the heated rear seats.
It’s snug for 4 of us, but our other car is an electric SUV so we tend to use that for family trips. It’s mostly just my commuting car.
I test drove the electric mini, ionic 5, Volvo and ID4 and the Polestar was the one I found the best.

@Runnyyolkplease. What electric SUV do you have? And would you recommend it?

@CertainUncertain ID4… my partners car and I liked it before I got my Polestar 😂
The visibility is great and the high up position is good, but the acceleration is quite jerky/feels too fast at low speeds. You also can’t trust the range as it alters during the journey and you end up worrying about needing to charge mid trip. Also doesn’t have as many luxuries as my car. It’s due to go back in a couple of months and we’re getting the Audi Q6 I think.

Runnyyolkplease · 26/01/2025 19:02

@CertainUncertain are you close enough to test drive a few different cars including the polestar?

Bromdad · 26/01/2025 20:22

We have a Polestar 2. Both my wife and I love driving it. With a home charger and a cheap overnight charging tariff it is ridiculously cheap to run. We have the dual motor version - it can be driven very smoothly at low speed, far smoother than a petrol/diesel car. At the same time, it is capable of accelerating incredibly quickly. It's the easiest car to drive that we have ever owned.

The car can be set to show 'dynamic range' - takes into account your driving style. This is pretty accurate. The integrated Google maps and Spotify connectivity are excellent.

If you buy a used one, make certain it has all of its original keys (early cars came with 3, later ones two) - you will not be able to access all of the cars features without them.

CertainUncertain · 26/01/2025 21:41

@Runnyyolkplease. Yes, we will definitely be doing some test drives, but I wanted to hear about people's experiences.

@Bromdad. That sounds promising - more or less the same way I've felt about driving the Tesla. I think we're looking to buy new, but will keep that in mind.
