South east London and Kent days out ideas please, for gift voucher

I have a relative who lives in Bexley south east London, they have a birthday coming up and for a gift I would like to purchase them a voucher for a day out somewhere. Not Greenwich they have been there.
They have a car so can get around. They like walks, historic places, interesting towns, good food and drink.
Any other ideas for Kent and SE London? Preferably somewhere I can get a voucher for.
Thanks

NT membership?
NH (or maybe historical houses) membership?

I looked at NT membership but at £90 that's a bit out of my budget

English Heritage might be cheaper. Wakehurst Place, Leeds Castle, Penshurst Place

Eltham Palace
Hever Castle
Sissinghurst
Leeds Castle (lovely gardens in summer)
so many interesting places in Kent,
from the Crossness Engines to Dover Castle
Perhaps you could ask their preference ?

Lovely ideas, I'd like it to be a surprise so don't want to ask them

Maybe find an event day that might interest them

Bodiam Castle (NT). If your relative waits till later in the year this could be combined with travelling on a heritage railway to get to the castle.

Nearer to home, there's the Brunel Museum in Rotherhithe. Or Tower Bridge.

Sorry, meant English Heritage ☹️

English Heritage is good for places in SE. Eltham Palace is lovely. Lullingstone Villa, Dover Castle are also English Heritage.

As others have mentioned, Hever Castle is also amazing. It's privately owned.

Is Chatham Historic dockyard any good?

Yes, and there is aCall the Midwife tour if that appeals, possibly others

Snowmanscarf · 25/01/2025 18:30

Leeds castle was my first thought (not NT)

instead of membership, you can get National Trust vouchers so they don’t need a full membership.

Leeds castle is not English heritage, but independent.

Will always recommend a season ticket for Riverhill Himalayan Gardens in Sevenoaks - relatively easy from Bexley.

Absolutely beautiful and so many activities held during the year, but mostly I love popping there after work for a coffee and brain break!

LIZS · 25/01/2025 18:43

@Snowmanscarf I am aware, neither are the others I listed. .

Pytilla · 25/01/2025 18:55

Scotney castle, anyone? Seems like lots of options for castles 😊

Chatham dockyard would be a no from me . Scotney Castle is lovely but to see the best of it , which is the ruins , there is a large hill so as long as they are pretty fit that should be good . Polesden Lacy in Surrey is lovely , nice gardens / grounds and a great house .

Sorry, I misread your post and thought you were listing NT places. . .
