It's freezing and I need a pee. It's going to be another half hour before breakdown recovery get here!

I'm so grateful that we were advised to ask about a taxi so didn't have to jump from rescue truck to rescue truck. We'd probably still be on our way home now. I have never been more grateful for my breakdown cover.

We've just been reunited with the car. Which I'm happy about as one of my slippers had fallen out of the case last night Wink

That’s good. It’s just a shame you missed out on your weekend away.

Brambles though.

Ouch...

I ll take your M40 breakdown and raise you a rodent loose in my car that has managed to get inside the dash and nibble my electrics. Breakdown was unable to take it away because the steering lock is on and it s in Park with the wheels at an angle . I now have to wait for a 'robot' (yes that's what I thought) to come to move it. On a serious note I'm glad they got to you and you re now safe x

I broke down on the M1 last year. Highway Patrol Officers came out to me and gave me a foil blanket. It was windy, so I stood there like a I was in superhero fancy dress as the foil flapped in the wind. Waited for 4 hours, lone female. I was quite scared and the highways officers warned me about men stopping to “help”.

Since then I have a small grab bag for breakdowns with:
Torch
Portable phone charger
Foil blankets
Battery powered hand warmers
High viz vests
Bottled water
First Aid kit
Jelly babies (for sugar levels and in case of shock at an accident)
Snacks
Packable rain ponchos
Shewee!

Also in car, live rurally, I have cat litter (for tyre grip in mud or stuck in ice/snow) and a thick picnic blanket so I can sit down at the roadside instead of standing for hours. Fire extinguisher.

I may be overpreparwd but I like to use Sod’s Law in my favour, which is if I have them, I won’t need them!

Yikes. Could Highway Patrol not take you to a petrol station? Or was there no room?

I would just wee, that's one thing off your mind. Any form of container to do it or go outside if safe. Do you take any blankets with you? Having a couple always handy, and spare socks, lesson learnt from also being broken down a few years ago.

My boot now has a lighter, blankets, thick socks, a she wee, plastic bowl, gloves, power bank. Xxx

We had our car relayed home for M5/Exeter to East London whilst we came home in a rental arranged by the AA. Relay took a week to get my baby home.
