If you had high blood pressure in your first pregnancy, did you in subsequent pregnancies?

Just curious if it’s an issue that might come up again or not. I was diagnosed with hypertension at 34/35 weeks, it never developed into anything else but I was monitored twice a week and baby delivered at 39+0 as they wanted to either induce or c section before my due date

If I were to have another baby in a few years is it likely it will happen again?

Was admitted to hospital because of high blood pressure during my first pregnancy but was fine with my second and third. I did go on to have hypertension years later though and on medication for it, it does run in my family.

I had high blood pressure/border line pre eclampsia with my first pregnancy, delivered by c section at 39+1 as DD wasn't growing, measuring small.

When pregnant with DS 2 years later, had routine blood pressure, all fine, textbook pregnancy, but had to be consultant led & growth scans and told not allowed a natural birth, had to be either induced between 38-40 weeks or have a pre planned c section at 39 weeks.

I was in high dependency on my first pregnancy due to my blood pressure being completely unstable after the birth and on meds for ages afterwards. Less so on DC2 but still a longer than usual hospital stay and meds and no blood pressure issues on DC3

DD1 - high BP developed as i went into labour at 38w and then medicated for about 12w afterwards until stabilised. I was 34.

DD2 - high BP developed at 36w, medicated with labetalol and nifedipine until 39w when it turned into preeclampsia. Medicated for about 10w afterwards due to slow tapering down of both medications. I was 37.

Both babies SGA (and DD1 suspected IUGR). Both pregnancies also had issues with uterine artery pressure.

No two pregnancies are the same, ime.

Son - I gained 5 stone and had gestational diabetes. I was induced at 36.5 weeks. Labour went on for over 24 hours, his heart rate started to drop, attempted to use suction to get him out, nothing worked, so I had an emergency C section.

Daughter - I gained about 2.5 stone, no complications until hind waters broke at 39 weeks, I was induced and had a vaginal delivery which took just 6 hours.

I had quite severe pre eclampsia in my first pregnancy and no issues in my second and third. My sister was the same. It's a long time ago now (my children are all adults) but if I recall rightly I was told that the incidence goes down in second and later pregnancies provided they're with the same father. I think you're still at higher risk than someone who didn't have it first time - I was certainly monitored very closely - but it's definitely not the case that if you've had it once you're bound to have it again.
So unfortunately nobody can guarantee it won't recur but there's a fairly good chance you won't. If you are worried, it might be worth you talking to your doctor before you TTC or contact one of the relevant charities such as Action on Pre-eclampsia for more information.
