I thought people might be interested in this message I got from World Central Kitchen, which is a pet charity of mine. It's just a circular they send to anyone who has made a donation, but it's interesting.
"I am reaching out with World Central Kitchen’s latest update on our emergency response to the devastating wildfires in southern California. Over the past week, significant strides to quell the fires in LA County have been made, with the Palisades and Eaton fires currently at 70% and 95% containment, respectively. Despite the progress made by the thousands of firefighters who are working hard to combat the blazes, the situation remains dire. Strong Santa Ana winds have returned in the past 48 hours, increasing the risks of the existing fires while fueling the ignition of three new brush fires in San Diego County and an additional blaze just north of Santa Clarita, Hughes fire, which has already destroyed 10,000 acres since Wednesday. According to the New York Times, about 90,000 people remain under evacuation orders. Meanwhile, many of the people who have been permitted to return to their homes are reporting that the poor air quality and extensive property damages have created unlivable conditions.

WCK has been working tirelessly since the initial hours after the fires started to provide warm, comforting meals to the families across southern California who have been impacted by the widespread destruction. Through a strong network of over 65 restaurant and food truck partners, WCK is serving thousands of meals daily at emergency personnel hubs, shelters, public distribution sites, and to the hospital wards that are providing care to burn victims. To date, WCK has provided more than 280,000 nourishing meals to communities affected by the fires. For our latest list of distribution sites and times, please click heree or visit our websitee.

Across all WCK emergency responses, the power of community fuels our work, making our efforts to provide food relief possible. The response from the LA community over the past two weeks has been astounding, with local restaurants and organizations stepping up to do whatever they can to support their neighbors in need. Jason and his team at the Malibu Brewing Company, for example, have converted their restaurant into a WCK Cafee, offering a safe space for anyone affected by the fires to relax, recharge, and enjoy a warm meal. WCK also partnered with Hard Rock Cafee and local LA sports teams to help serve thousands of meals to displaced residents who were forced to flee their homes. We are inspired and grateful for the humanity that has shone through during some of the communities’ darkest times.

As the situation in southern California continues to evolve, our Relief Teams are monitoring the changing needs of impacted communities and adapting our response accordingly. WCK is committed to continue providing emergency food relief to families in the affected areas for as long as we are needed. In addition to serving meals in the LA area, WCK is also assessing how we can best support restaurant workers and restaurant owners who have lost their livelihoods.

On behalf of the entire team at WCK, we are truly grateful for your contribution supporting the families, first responders, and restaurant workers who have been impacted by the ongoing wildfires in LA County. It is your generosity that makes our work to feed people in times of crisis possible. Please feel free to reach out directly if you have any questions or would like any additional information about our emergency response.
