Where to go in Bristol with kids?

Looking to visit Bristol with 5yr old and 8yr old either Feb half term or Easter to see family. Where would you recommend we can take the children while we are there?

The aquarium is good

We the Curious, Bristol Zoo Project both good for those ages

If the weathers not great then We The Curious is ideal for children that age - lots of interactive exhibits and a planetarium for a few pounds extra. If it’s nice the Downs are good for an adventure playground, the suspension bridge and an observatory (with underground caves)
Theres so much to do with children in Bristol, a lot of things are free - museums, parks, harbour side etc etc

The science museum re-opened last year after a refurb following a fire, it's really good, lots of hands-on stuff to do: https://www.wethecurious.org/.

The harbourside is a nice area to walk around, and take a boat around: https://www.bristolferry.com/.

On said harbourside is M Shed, a free museum: https://www.bristolmuseums.org.uk/m-shed/.

I always recommend Treasure Trails as fun activities to get a walk around a new place, see some interesting history and architecture: https://www.treasuretrails.co.uk/collections/bristol.

St Nick's Market is nice for browsing the stalls and getting some tasty lunch: https://www.stnicholasmarketbristol.com/.

Wake The Tiger is expensive but really unique place to visit, good if poor weather: https://www.wakethetiger.com/.

If you're there for a few days then taking a trip up to Clifton and walking across the suspension bridge is a must-do.

We The Curious

With hundreds of hands-on exhibits to explore, live shows and a Planetarium, We The Curious is one of the UK’s biggest and most exciting interactive science centres.

Thank you. I will take a look. Is ‘we the curious’ the science museum?

There's the M shed museum by the harbour. You can also then go on the Matthew and maybe a ferry trip around the harbour

Also Bristol Museum in Clifton - great for kids!

Tyntesfield (National Trust) not far out of Bristol.

SS Great Britain

Noah's Ark Zoo (again slightly out of the City)

BakingQueen14 · 22/01/2025 12:37

Wake the tiger.

Papyrophile · 22/01/2025 13:20

Definitely the SS Great Britain.

Karmaisaguyonthechiefs · 22/01/2025 13:30

I wouldn’t recommend the aquarium it’s very expensive and not very good for the value.

we the curious is much better value for money. We went with our 5,6&13 yr old at the weekend and they all loved it spent hours there

AdaColeman · 22/01/2025 13:39

SS Great Britain

Boat trip around the docks

Clifton Suspension Bridge

PickleJelly · 22/01/2025 13:41

I also wouldn't recommend the aquarium, it's fairly small and very expensive for what it is. We left disappointed and wouldn't choose to go back.
I agree with the suggestions of We the curious, the Bristol zoo project and SS Great Britain. All really fun and you can spend a good amount of time at them.

Ss great britain

SpeedyMcNobhead · 22/01/2025 13:58

I agree with the aerospace museum, they have a Concorde there.

I couldn’t recommend the Bristol zoo project-we thought it was dire!
